    The Night Shift

In defense of the night shift, my first job in the industry was a 4 year stint at a bank check printing company so I could attend university classes during the day. 50 some years later, it is hard to imagine how that was possible :^) Our night shift was a good deal smaller than the day shift...

Hydraulic vs. pneumatic hot stamping press

I have a pneumatic one ton press, Aamstamp, which has proven to be a great press. Can be used both with air and manually. I know from having a hydraulic Challenge cutter, that you couldn't always rely on the same amount of downward impression.

    Platemaking on various Xante printers

Re: Platemaking on various Xante printers I 've heard the HP 5000 does make a good plate, but if you feel adventurous, watch for a used Xante Platemaker on a site like e-Bay. We found a Plate Maker 4 for half the price of a new 5 and it works just fine.

Re: Hot Foil Stamping Generally most foils work on most paper substrates, trial and error is still the best way to determine applicability. The foil release is actually more important, and is dependent on how large an area you want the foil to cover, whether fine type, medium coverage like...
