    Throwing press plates

Which is why when using compressible blankets (almost industry standard on web offsets) you normally underpack a little.

    Throwing press plates

We had this problem with our new 4-HI. All of a sudden we started throwing plates and could not figure out why. We checked the plate thicknesses and they were the same, we checked the blanket and packing thicknesses with a cobra mike and they were withing spec. We were considering pulling the...

Application of water (fountain solution) into the press

You must not forget another variable in the equasion...namely the plate mfg. When we moved from cutting and pasting negs to CTP the plate mfg. recommended we switch from neutral solution to mild acid. We use Fuji plates and solution so I dunno if they made the recommendation just because the...

    Plate Cylinder Packing

Wait what? .20? Damn...I'm paying $4.13 per gallon for gas here.

    Plate Cylinder Packing

Yeah we're currently using this stuff from Nova Chem. that's odourless (well not totally...it has a faint vanilla smell) because of all the bit**ing from the 'up front people' (as I call them anyway). It's kinda weak and not that great but it does get the job done. We used to use this stuff...

    Plate Cylinder Packing

EH?? You mean petrol or kerosene? Doesn't it leave a bad residue?

    Plate Cylinder Packing

I first used our regular solvent/blanket wash to clean the cylinder then switched to acetone when the blanket wash didn't seem to evaporate as quick.

Steve Jobs has a hot Flash

Yeah the new iPad does not support Flash. I guess Apple thinks their Quick Time is superior but the problem is one of inertia.

    Plate Cylinder Packing

Well we run our blankets .086" on the bench and .081" on the run. We're using cut down plates for the same reason the entire industry is running narrower webs (we run single width 22" webs normally)...namely cost savings. We're also transitioning to cut down forms and transfers but since we...

    Plate Cylinder Packing

Well we've been cutting down the width of our plates lately in order to save money. So while the plate cylinder is 34.25" wide, the plates we're using are 27" and they're considering cutting that down further to 26".

    Plate Cylinder Packing

I run some Communities and 4-highs and am having a problem with the spray glue we use to pack our plate cylinders. The undercut on the plate cylinder is .014" and we use .008" plates so we pack our plate cylinders with .006" mylars. The problem is the spray glue we use seems to let the mylar...

    Colour Sequence...

Well what kind of press are you running? We're running 4-HI's with the Y-M-C-K config. and it's fine except for some contamination of the yellow with the magenta.

    how's business

At the height of the economic....malaise shall we say...all the employees got a letter from the CEO saying that advertising was off 40% over all so no more employer 401K matching (which we got for only the first 3% anyway). 2 months ago we got another letter saying that conditions have improved...

    Dot gain / TVI variation...

Well we use rolls that average 325 kg so to let them normalize you gotta let them sit for a lot more than 24 hours.

    Dot gain / TVI variation...

Humidity also matters as it affects your paper. How long has that paper been sitting around? Have you given it time to normalize with the ambient conditions or did you use it right away after it's been delivered? Also time of year will affect your paper if you have a fast inventory turnover...
