Try printing a nozzle check or a status sheet from the printer to check if its OK. Try printing a Word document, or anything non-Adobe.
Ive seen this on a couple of printers - turned out to be an Adobe/driver corruption. Re-install CS and the printer driver.

Check the RIP settings. Most RIPs have an option to force the head to travel the full width, if you switch this off. the head should only travel the width of the print job
The powder on wet ink and then heat process used to be known as "Verco" in Australia. Whether that was a generic term or a brand name, I'm not sure. I've just done a quick Google search and there weren't any hits for Verco.
