    Esko cleanup

Just so you know because they seem to be keeping it awfully quiet... Last week Esko decided to sack 10% of staff worldwide because business is slow they say. Well, IMHO sacking people with a full schedule is not going to help business at all... Note that I'm saying Esko, not EskoArtwork since...

    Esko Backstage/Packedge/CSx vs. Prinergy

I'm sorry but I do not understand what point you are trying to make here. The PDF RIP that has been in Nexus for some years now is a native PDF RIP, it does not do any extra conversions, it goes from PDF (up to 1.6 I think) directly to screened or unscreened TIFF, DCS, EPS, ... All...

Pitstop causing Acrobat to take ~5 minutes to start up

Personally I think Acrobat Pro has always been horribly slow to startup on a Mac compared to PC, adding PitStop only makes it worse. But I also think it has improved a lot with the latest versions. I'm running Acrobat 8 with PitStop 8 and starts up much faster. Also note that the number of...

Adobe lays off 900 staff - CS4 slow seller

Sry mate but I do not agree, just tell the bloody designer to save back to CS3 whenever possible. Also, if you can sell real added value to your product instead of just trying to be the cheapest printer out there, then you are in a stronger position to stimulate customers to follow certain rules...

Anyway to verify if they are Odystar PDF

I don't think there is a definite way to tell if a PDF comes from Odystar. In most cases (if not all) Odystar itself does not actually create any PDF's, it modifies existing ones you supply to it or they are created by Distiller. That is why it shows the original creator info, but it would be...

    Esko Backstage/Packedge/CSx vs. Prinergy

I'm not a sales guy but don't forget to consider Artpro and Nexus (former Artwork Systems but by no means dead) ;) But I think that choice mainly comes down if you want to use Mac or PC since they have roughly the same features.

Adobe lays off 900 staff - CS4 slow seller

Too much too much Too much too much I know many companies where they are not yet even using CS3 or where they are just in the process of switching... and then CS4 is released... Sry Adobe but these are way too short release cycles, people are not money-cows, come on. And with the current...

    Art Submission Requirements

I can't give you the whole list but very important are: - images (resolution) - color (ban RGB, Lab, and other exotic color spaces) - fonts (embedded) - color management (icc profiles) - fine lines and strokes that cannot be printed ... This probably already covers about 75% of all preflight...

    Smart Marks

Not that familiar with ESS7 but you should not call it Scope anymore, that's the old name ;-) Also it is recommended to use normalized PDF these days, GRS is the old format.

    Offset trap size (Industry standard)

I do not agree that the trapping distance has anything to do with the screenruling, this is completely unrelated. Trapping is to disguise printing registration errors and this depends on the printing technique, press, substrate, temprature, humidity, ... but not the screenruling. With a higher...

    Screening NEXUS 9.0

The padlocks for the Nexus parameters have no influence on this. But if you are exporting PDF from Artpro or you are using a workflow that will open the AP file, export a PDF and RIP it, then make sure the option "include screening" is enabled for Export PDF. For separated PostScript the...

1200 ppi Proofer for Esko Workflow

Do you have all the software you need to make a good dotproof? What kind of output options do you have on the Flexrip or what flavor is it (C/T4/...)? I also think you need Flexproof to convert the screened output from Flexrip into a nice dotproof. For dotproofs, the required resolution depends...

    Softproofs from Nexus

What I have always found to be a good way to make a softproof with Nexus is to use the Composite Proof activity. Just set the output format to PDF, the resolution to 150 or 300dpi (or whatever you like) and the compression to flate. This basically generates an image in a PDF wrapper it but the...

    Nexus 9 released!

I forgot to mention it was the windows installer only. But surprises me it made the folder for you anyway. Maybe it was changed because I'm pretty sure it was not like that with the windows installer of the beta builds. But I'm not complaining, it should make the folder for you.

    Nexus 9 released!

What Shuttle are you using? Standalone or in Artpro? Make sure you use the latest version in both cases, so use the Shuttle included with NexusManager 9 or use Artpro 9. Older Shuttles are not compatible with Nexus 9.
