    Caring

Quantity over quality, the more out the door the more you could bill for. That was the philosophy of my first print house. It never had to be right, until the customer complained. Sh*t in sh*t out, nobody cared :( Glad to say I have not worked for them for almost 10 years.

    Business Jargon

Ok its not "business jargon" but, in sports "If the season ended today" ... OMG ITS NOT GOING TO END TODAY so why have that conversation every week the last 1/2 of the season. I will change the station every time that this topic comes up.

    Business Jargon

"Lets not re-invent the wheel" ... I have heard this at every print house I have worked at. Drives me crazy that and we have to get our registration "Dead nuts" or "Nuts on" again every print house...... I'd rather hear nails on a chalk board then any of these 3 ever again.

Do you charge clients for preepress re-design?

"Either way, you win because your time is more valuable than their money. Customers can be replaced; hours can't." Go ahead and flame me for this, but this is one of the most depressing statements I have ever heard. Many replies on this thread have been customer bashing. People wonder why...

How long have ya been doin' this?

2000 I walked into a newspaper having no idea what a "Plate and Camera" department did. Two days and I was instantly hooked. Started stripping film. Fast forward 13 years, I am still in Prepess working for my third print house. Still love the job, love learning anything I can about the entire...

    Prepress Tips for Designers

my favorite... (story from my supervisor).... client comes in with a full color brochure. He says "so its a 4 color job" and she screams "THATS A LOT MORE THEN FOUR COLORS!!!" I still crack up every time we joke about this.

    Evil Quark

When printing from Quark, I will select separations in Color Options/Mode, but it will not print the separations but will just print a composite. Am I missing a setting somewhere? (This does not happen all the time but often enough I thought I would make this post) Thanks in advance for any...

    Duotone Conversion

Dan, Thanks for your comments. The thing is I need these to be CMYK, and not a spot color. The issue we had was with our CiPress reading the spot colors and we were trying to create a work-around. I hope that makes sense. Drew Bohlen

    Duotone Conversion

Stephen, Thanks for your reply. What I am looking to do is "map" spot 1 to 24% Cyan, 34% Magenta, 55% Yellow, 5% Black (these numbers are made up, just for example). The reason I want to set up an action for this is on a particular client they will send say 17 versions of a newsletter, each...

    Duotone Conversion

Hi all. I have a PDF that has a duotone (2 spot colors) photo. I am wondering if there is an action in Pitstop that I can convert the 2 spot colors to a CMYK of my choice. Meaning I do not want a CMYK equivalent, but I want to be able to pick the percentages of the CMYK conversion. Thanks in...
