Thanx, we do that often for final PDF, I forgot to mention earlier that we need to delete all unused channels, not only from final PDF but from Artpro file also. So, does anyone have a way to delete black channel that is used in opacity mask without flattening the trans?:confused:

ah, like I expected, but, we don't do the step thing here, we need to make a hi-res PDF file for end user with only used channels in it (idiot proof) customer can't get past the idea that you just don't have to plate/print the black channel if it is not used..... I am looking for a way to re-map...

when do you put black at end of list? the only time I can see doing that is in Artpro/Nexus after file is ripped.

How do you handle Opacity Masks in Artpro/Nexus when you need to delete Black channel and it is used as Opacity mask? I found that I can flatten transparencies but I would like to avoid doing that, anyone have a work around for it?

Sherbert, have you found a way to preview the .flt (flyt) files?

We use Smartstream for imposition but have not tried the variable data part as of yet. Overall, I think it is useful for some jobs and a waste of time for others.....

I don't remember the last time that was an issue for me. The issue now is that sometimes small text in Illustrator that has a small stroke added needs to be outlined before going to RIP or else the stroke gets whacked out... (no pun intended) :D

You need to find someplace that has a copy dot scanner.........

I haven't had a problem like that, typecheck; offending command usually comes from the Illy files from what I've seen. But, it could also be something in the tif, is it layered? too many layers maybe, I have had some with too many alpha channels too.

We get plenty O' PDF files from clients, most of which are no good for one reason or another. We will first try to drag & drop to Illustrator, if that won't work we try different settings during import depending on the problems. If transparencies are a problem we will ask for native files to...
