I agree with the MacPro idea. The imacs seem like they share too many aspects with laptops to be the best choice for production.

The option under Units & Display Performance has the option for faster updates to the display in CS4, but I see that option is missing in CS5.

Thanks for that explanation. I did notice the difference with snapping and CS4 today. At first I thought it wasn't working at all, being used to CS3, but then it did what you said, especially after I turned up the snap distance to 8 (max).

I find that the stacking or layering order makes a difference too. By moving what you want to snap to, below what you are moving, sometimes makes a difference, along with zooming in. I also have tried to relax about many aspects of assembly, and eyeball things where I can.:D

I tried printing from Illust to our colour copier with a rip attached to it, and it does both print with overprints, and without overprints, depending on that setting under advanced for showing overprinting, so ours works as it should. Since yours isn't working normally, I would suggest...

The "best" way is to manually apply traps (overprints) to the objects as they are created. Then, if the objects are moved, etc., the traps will be retained, eliminating the need for retrapping the file. This usually is the best policy for files that may be reused and picked up again and again...

If you open the document, Illustrator will warn you if the doc is an older version. It will give you the option to lock the text as it is, or to let it reflow to the current version of Illustrator. Of course, there is no guarantee of text looking the same as on the original without comparing...
