How to assure consistent color when exporting to PDF?

You never mentioned the printing process? I'm curious if it is being printed 4cp, the print shop should show you the difference between Pantone 301 and Pantone 301P with a Pantone Color Bridge book. Or at *least* warn you it's not going to match 301.

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

I wouldn't have the customer convert to outline. I would have the customer fix the issues. Outlines are only created when we don't have or can't download a missing font.

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

I'm lucky if I don't get pdfs with downsampling to 120ppi. Or "smallest file size" because "it emails faster". (insert banging head on desk here). And trust me, it's not for lack of communication with our customers regarding art guidelines. Issues just off the top of my head would be...

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

Reason #3: Missing a ship date due to not being able to contact the "graphic artist" or our customer not being able to contact their customer who supplied the submitted art. I agree with converting fonts to paths can and will create issues in some circumstances. If any issues come up on a...

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

I'm curious why you feel it's a "horrible" thing to do to a font? I've never had an issue with a font that has been converted to paths, either by me or our customers in the 20+ years we've been digital.

How do customers check your presswork?

Flexo print here. Currently by eye. And I hate it. For the last 7 yrs or so we have been printing one time use items. There's the occasional re-print but not a lot. And 90% of the work is 4cp. Prior to that we were a prime pressure sensitive label printer. We were international award winners...

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

My guess is they removed that option because of the unexpected results the end user was receiving after checking that box. I flatten pdfs quite often if I have to outline fonts I don't have in order to manipulate the job in Illustrator. Unexpected results on a large percentage of those flattened...

Exposing Polymer plates on Offset UV exposure unit

I'm not familiar with the exposure unit but the only thing you'll be out by trying is the plate material. I would do back exposure steps of 5 second increments then wash out the plate and see where you're at. What plate material is it?

    amatuer spot colour question

With the Flexo plate and anilox technology available to flexo printers today this shouldn't be an issue. 10+ years ago yes, but not in today's world. I would research a new print supplier.

    Press-ready PDFs v. Native Files

If customers read and followed our supplied art guidelines on how to create print ready pdfs, my answer is pdfs. But seeing how that will never be reality, my answer is native files 100% of the time. I would guess we have to manipulate/fix/rebuild over 50% of the customer submitted pdfs. I'm...
