I used to see this when the plate developer was exhausted. Try changing it.

    Agfa Azura TS Plate Wear

I don't want to post bad publicity for a brand on a public domain, but if you just change the fount to a different brand and it is still the same, then at least you have identified it's not a fount issue.

    Agfa Azura TS Plate Wear

When you say plate wear, can you please confirm if the image is wearing or the non-image area is wearing. I have had plate wear issues in the past with the image area wearing down after a few thousand and in the end it came down to the fount, we changed that and the problem instantly disappeared.

    Dot Gain before press

Thanks for your response Gordo, Please see my responses below. 50% requested in file = between 50% to 58% on plate. No, it does not vary from 50 to 58, it is consistently 58% The you say: "We have then applied a linear curve based on these readings" What readings? How can you build a...

    Dot Gain before press

Thanks for your response Gordo. Just to clarify, the plate technician came in to investigate and he advises me that when doing a new install without any curves in place, he would expect at 50% to get 58% reading which would be ideal. This is due to the mechanics of UV exposure. We have then...

    Dot Gain before press

In the first instance I am getting the measurement off the digital TIFF file. In the second instance I am getting the measurement off the plate made from the above TIFF file. What does not make sense is that any dot gain compensation has already been applied to the TIFF and then that is exposed...

    Dot Gain before press

I was doing some process checks the other day and came across this anomaly . I made the 1-bit Tiffs through the RIP with linearisation and press curves applied and read the 50% patch which came out as 52%, I then made some plates from the Tiffs and read the same patch and it read 67% !?. Am I...

    Resolution and Ink Saving

Many thanks for the explanation Gordo. The answer is very interesting and probably a lesson learned for many.

    Resolution and Ink Saving

That is what I thought, but it is only my assumption as a 50% patch is half ink and half paper (not including dot gain) regardless of LPI. By the way, we do currently use a GCR/UCR device link profile, It's just a logic I wanted to have confirmed.

    Resolution and Ink Saving

Sorry Gordo, I need to re-word the question. If I change the LPI on my RIP from 100 to 90 (Newsprint) is there any ink saving benefit. As I see it there is not.

    Resolution and Ink Saving

Can anyone please confirm that there is no ink saving benefit going from say 300dpi to 200dpi as I believe the only difference is purely resolution.
