Perfect binding - small tear in cover

I know exactly what you're talking about as this affects us as well. Typically, perfect bound books are cut face down when cutting the top portion down to ensure that you are cutting into the spine first (if you don't cut into the spine first, the cut will cause much more tearing on the side of...

    Grommeting vinyl banners

We're printing 48"x72" vinyl banners that need to be grommeted. I've tried looking for common grommeting specifications, but can't find any. The grommets we're using are 1" in diameter and I'm wondering how far in they should be on a poster of this size. What should the distance be from the...

Thanks for the reply Alex. Anyone have thoughts on the ISP Stitch'n Fold B2000?

    Offline Booklet Maker

We've outgrown and therefore are looking to replace our Standard Nagel Foldnak M2 offline booklet maker. We need something that can handle up to 25 pages and will fold/staple–scoring and/or face trimming are not necessary, but would be a plus. Example of things we've made in the past that our...

Looking for a good offline folder

I'm having trouble finding an approximate price online–how much do these things run? Edit: Found one used on eBay for $5,000

Looking for a good offline folder

I need something that can handle stocks up to 300gsm as well as thin, staticy 80lb text gloss (~140gsm). Ideally, it would have pre-programmed standard folds (bi, tri, engineer) as well as the ability to plug in custom folds. We typically bi-fold and tri-fold, but every now and then we venture...

What's your #1 deciding factor when buying digital equipment today?

It's not necessarily all of those equally, but some combination of them... It needs to put out quality prints, do what you need it to do, it needs to be reliable (both in terms of good uptime and techs available to come out quickly), and the overall costs need to make sense.

    Horizon book binder

Yes, it is semi-manual in that you place in the guts, clamp them in, press a button, place the cover in, press another button, then remove the finished book. The cover doesn't feed in automatically (placed in one at a time), so I can't help you there.

    Advice please folks!

How valuable is your time? If you're spending hours upon hours manually inserting tabs into these books and that time could better be spent, then I believe it's worth it to make the change. My goal is to do as little manual work as possible–that is, after all, why we have machines.

    Horizon book binder

While we don't have the BQ-460, we do have the BQ-140 and aside from a few hiccups it has been an absolute workhorse.

Printing envelopes with the Canon 7000

I thought about that, but I'm worried about the adhesive coming off onto the rollers.

    DSLR Choices

I have a Canon 40D and am very happy with it. I'm not a big fan of the smaller bodies (e.g. XSi, T1i, D5000, D40, etc.), which is why I went with the bigger Canon 40D. I picked it up used and couldn't be happier with it. Just remember, it's all about the lens.
