Buying from overseas

Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding how best to handle an equipment purchase direct from the manufacturer in a far away place (Asia in this case)? Specifically the transfer of funds in a protected fashion, if it's even possible. I'm considering a six figure acquisition, and the vendor is asking for 60% down, 30% on shipping, 10% after they do the installation at my shop in NY. Based on the info I've gathered online about them, they've been established a long enough time, and have installs of the same equipment in countries other than their own but not as far away as I am.

How are they handling support if something goes wrong? That seems like a long distance to get support from the manufacturer.

Besides the type of printer I'm considering (paper), the manufacturer also has installs of their other types of printers (label, textile, corrugated) in the US. Techs are presently here, and are trained on all platforms.
