    I have a Challenge 305 MC cutter the digital read out resets at 5:00 but when we move it from there it goes out of calibration. looking for an answer for this problem.

    Bring the back gauge forward. Get hold of it and push / pull. Does it move significantly? more than a tenth of inch? Maybe almost a half inch? The brass nut that rides up and down on the screw rod is worn away. And/ or the end play on the rod.. Needs bearing and thrust washer on the rod, and new brass nut on the screw rod. Maybe other stuff too.? Looking at one to two thousand total to have fixed.

    Look at the flag/plate under the table that sets the 5 inch base line. Make sure it's tight. and clean.
    Have you checked the drive belt of the screw rod? Not too tight nor too loose. Otherwise you may be looking at replace the encoder.
