Web Press "Step" program for registration?

I'm not a web printer, but I have seen this setting in imposition software eg. Preps That is where you are most likely to find it rather than in the rip itself

    Non-profiled offset printing

If you are supplying content as CMYK, changing the profiles will not change the output values unless the printer is doing CMYK-CMYK profiling, which is uncommon for offset printing. The purpose of the profile is to simulate the output of one device on another, usually when changing colourspaces...

    Offset & digital combination

Very true, That's why printers employ estimators, job planners and prepress operators (like me) who work out how to make the customers ideas work. In this case, if the colour pages were mid-section (eg. page 9 & 10 in colour) we would print as part of the offset section. if the colour pages fell...

    Offset & digital combination

When you print a perfect bound book on offset it is folded into 4, 8, ,12, 16 or sometimes 32pp sections, during the folding, the signatures are notched to allow the glue to penetrate, this is called notch binding. A digitally printed perfect bound book is, as you say, a bunch of sheets glued...

printing & cutting booklets for the first time

In addition to all the comments so far. Before trimming the head and foot, put each stack of books into the guillotine with the spine under the clamp but clear of the blade. Do a cut cycle with clamp pressure about 4000, the will help to flatten the books and make trimming easier and more accurate.

Printing from PDF to PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (separations)

I just looked at your Postscript error, it appears that the error is originating from the Adobe Graphics Manager, which is not a supported function in Postscript. The PDF is referencing an instruction from AGM.dll and parsing that into the Postscript stream.

Printing from PDF to PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (separations)

I expect it would go through Postscript as printing to PDF suggests the OP is printing to a Postscript file which is processed by Distiller via a printer driver. This is what we call "Re-baking" a PDF and is something we've probably all done in the past as a last resort to get a PDF to rip. I...

Good or bad idea in my situation? (Only selling posters with mounts/mattes)

I've just gone back and re-read the original thread, and I came away with the same headache I suffered the first time. In my 44 years in the printing industry, I have never encountered anything as ridiculous as this. I do feel that Xerox should have been a bit more diligent in the first place by...

    Why do they reject sRGB???

I suspect a hangover from older rips, where you would either get a black & white image or a very dull & washed out CMYK conversion from an RGB image. Brisque for example did a horrible conversion, basically mapping the RGB channels to CMY. Modern DFEs have ICC based conversion settings built in...

    Evolution of Color Proofs

It was slow and expensive, but made great proofs, I still have some lying around here. The pens were a bit troublesome I recall queuing up about 30 proofs to run overnight, only to find that a pen had failed part way through the third proof.

    Colour match a wide format

You should get close by using the same ICC input profile on both the digital and wide format and the calibrated baseline profile of each device as the destination profile If the operator on the digital press has made adjustments to densities etc, this will affect the accuracy of the colour matching.

Print Link settings for CIP3 data

When you export the Printlink data as a manual text file, you specify the number of ink zones etc. That data is not included in the .ppf file as the ink zone data is calculated by your press interface which splits the ppf into ink zones as defined for the press, therefore that data is not...

    Printing Board on a 1 over 4 Heidelberg SM/PM 52

1/4 would be preferable to 4/1 so the jobs deliver with the 4C side up in the delivery I don't have experience with this configuration on an SM52. We used to have a 1/4 + coater SM74

    Printing Board on a 1 over 4 Heidelberg SM/PM 52

An SM52 will have no problems with this, run long grain stock to avoid marking. An IR dryer will help reduce spray powder and speed up drying. There are both conventional and Alcolor versions of the SM52, do some research on Alcolor before purchasing. I can't comment on the PM52, apart from...
