    Excessive revisions and proofs

Maybe a better question would be how to help that 5% become more decisive. Sounds to me like you’re already doing it right. I don’t think it should be the overall number of edits but the time it takes to make the edits. If I price a brochure and let the customer know it will cost $150 based on...

    Excessive revisions and proofs

If we don’t acknowledge to our customers that they have exceeded their allotted time to complete a design, then we will continue to allow our customers to steal time. I had a new customer ask me to make changes to a pdf that was created by their designer. When I suggested that the best solution...

Seeking Input on Online Image Proofing System

Sounds interesting with the integrated shopping cart. I'd love to see a demo or more information.

Versant 280 Splotchy/Mottled Color on Heavy Stock

I would try adjusting the image transfer. Go to your custom paper setting that you're using for this paper and then select adjust image transfer. I always select by numbers and then scan the sheet after it prints out a sample.

    repair manuals

Check with Printers Parts. I think there are different locations for them but it's been a while so I'm not sure. I ordered all my parts from them when I had my 9810's. I can look but I'm certain I got rid of all the manuals and parts manual, Printers Parts should have the parts manual but I...

    Duplo DC-646 v Duplo DC-618

This is a great point and I think it varies greatly from shop to shop. For me, cutting is a necessity but not very profitable and not the best use of my time. If you’re a larger shop and have a dedicated bindery person, the numbers may look a lot different. I started to eliminate the time I was...

    Duplo DC-646 v Duplo DC-618

Do you have a source for the replacement blades?

    Duplo DC-646 v Duplo DC-618

I’m not picking on Duplo but I think most of these finishing pieces are overpriced. I do have a 618 and love it but I would like it a whole lot more if it were faster and less expensive. Would I load it up to cut down 2,500 brochures, no or 5,000 postcards, no. Those jobs all go on the...

    Canva

I have fewer issues with Canva pdf’s than I do with pdf’s created from other programs (user errors). I have a couple screen shots that I send customers to let them know how to share the pdf and to turn on rulers to see bleeds. Canva "flatten" actually converts vector art and text to an image and...

Xrite iPublish vs Fiery Color Profiler Suite

You could trial a version of Profiler to see if it helps but being miles away seems to indicate that there could be another issue. I don't know how the license works from one DFE to another but is it possible to use the same ES2000 or whatever version you're using on both machines?

    Luxe paper supplers

You'll have a tough time with that. LuxPaper is owned by Big Name Commerce and Big Name Commerce owns both of those companies. Maybe you can buy it direct from China like they do. I bought some of their envelopes from Amazon and Amazon didn't bother taking the original shipping labels off the...

    Xerox announces a 15% reduction in staff/employees (1/3/2024)

It’s a shame but I don’t think Xerox can correct the situation that they created when they started shedding knowledgeable employees and replacing them with boiler room script readers on the last round of major layoffs. They really don’t understand how the print for pay market works. Take care of...

    nesting software on a budget

If you’re using CorelDraw or Illustrator you could take a look at eCut. It would fit the requirement of a small budget. There’s also another plugin but I believe it’s for CorelDraw only Repro Scripts.

    The Re-quote Process

If the job is truly underpriced it needs to be adjusted, sometimes it happens. Raising prices too much can send your customers looking for cheaper prices, not raising prices when needed can send employees looking for a new job when the shop closes due to lack of profit. Back in 2008 the economy...

Canon C750 POD Deck Stopped Feeding Envelopes

Sounds like either the paper isn't making it to a senor in time or a sensor is maybe dirty or bad.

Canon C750 POD Deck Stopped Feeding Envelopes

This isn’t specific to the Canon POD deck. If your pickup wheel is new and it just spins it could be that your deck is either not raising enough to create pressure to feed or it is raising too high causing too much pressure. Check to make sure that your sensors are clean and that if you have air...

Used Xerox strategy - Color 1000i

The 3100i vs 4100 is a bit confusing. Since the 3100i was announced at the same time (2020) as the 4100, I assumed that they were the same machine, just different names. Fuji did the same thing with the 180, named the newer model the 180i and that was also announced at the same time as the 280...

Used Xerox strategy - Color 1000i

I would think that parts for the J75 would be harder to find than for the Versant. Could you keep the V3100 and service yourself? You can rebuild the 2nd BTR's and fusers for the Versant. You'd still need to deal with shipping but take a look at Parts Drop for Xerox replacement parts.

Software options for wide format printing

I’ve been using CorelDraw since the late 1980’s and it works great for wide format. My Summa cutter has a plugin for CorelDraw and for those that like to use Adobe products it has a plugin for AI too. I'm sure Affinity would do just fine too but I don't know if the cutters have plugins for...

Fuji Xerox v3100i verse Km C4070

Fortunately, the 2nd BTR is a very simple change. I had a 2nd BTR with the metal roller (rebuilt) and it did last longer but not close to end of life. The metal roller created two new problems, envelopes would get creased on the back side, and the coating from NCR would stick like crazy to the...
