    Free Workflow (Printweek UK)

Sounds interesting, but the download doesn't work. You get: "You are not authorized to perform this action" after filling in the form. Not a great advert for webflow :(

    Saddle stitch and folding

I'm with Craig, John. Yes, I can look at the output from a new 5c B2 runnning 200lpi hybrid and compare it side by side with the output from a digi box and the litho's clearly still better. But they're both good and that's the point, it's rare that the difference makes any difference. We...

    Xerox 800/1000 Press

This being stingy with supplies thing is a real Xerox thing, especially as the deliveries take 5 days. We were getting to a stage where we would be down waiting for toner and Xerox were completely useless. Luckily we'd bought through a large reseller and they were able to sort Xerox out for us...

    looking xerox 242 ....sugestions .???

Eloy - a couple of points. If you want to set up a print room, then go for it. However, if you'd rather stick to your core business, then go out and find a printer that's arrived in the 21st century already (we're in a different continent, so I can't be accused of touting for business). If...

Customers... don't ya just love 'em?

Ahh... customers. Our helpdesk just received an email that starts: "I've got an A4 newsletter that I would like printing on black paper. I have created it on microsoft word " Sadly, I don't think it's a wind up.

    Inconsistent Folding

Probably not what you want to hear, but we had exactly the same problem with one of our folders. It was overdue a service so I got the manufacturer out and 4 hours later it was working as good as new again. FWIW I think they replaced a couple of minor belts that were worn as well as the service.

Looking for some help from the Experts

The 240 is a much more capable machine than the 3535. Remember that both are discontinued models, so you need to know exactly how long Xerox will continue maintenance. I recommend that you get a fully inclusive contract on whatever machine you go with. Good luck.

Expanding into Digital - some help please

That's a really big topic and the "search" facility on this forum will be your friend as different aspects of it have been covered in detail in other threads. We run litho (B3, B2) and digital colour & B&W, so see the differences in quality every day. Bottom line is that although digital has...

    help!!!

Multiple machines are always better than one and will save your bacon in the long run. However, the caveat is to make sure that they meet your minimum requirements. For example, you will find that a 250 won't duplex coated sheets with any kind of f-t-b registration accuracy, whereas a 700...

    final decision X700 VS C6501

Ben, my 2c - do a thorough technical eval speak to at least two, preferably three other owners IN YOUR AREA about service run the numbers (there's plenty of help available if you don't have accounting / business training & experience) run the numbers (worth mentioning twice, I've seen several...

UV or not to UV - that is the question

FYI the Tec Lighting machines are now sold in the UK by Foliant. I had a chat and it seems like Tec Lighting take the US prices, add 25% and then replace the US$ sign with a GB£, so the cheapest hand fed option is £15K ($23K). Looks like we're still "Treasure Island"!

Newbie to Cutting Business Cards - HELP!

Shaz, regarding the minimum cutting depth. I don't know if this will help or not: we've got two guillotines, a Polar 78 and an EBA 551LT. I don't know about the Polar, but the little baby guillotine has a "clamp cover" and you have to remove that if you want to cut very small sizes. It just...

Perfect binding - small tear in cover

This whole grain direction thing confuses me and in my experience is generally trotted out as an excuse when someone doesn't know what the real problem is. When I was last told that we needed to change grain direction for specific jobs the paper rep came out to the factory, had a chat with us...

Perfect binding - small tear in cover

Hmmm... I'm going to go with stuffed up here. There's no way that they should have run the job if there are noticable defects. Even if it's "not their fault" (hard to believe), they should have picked up the phone and talked about it with you. Find another finisher.

    Equipment choice for carbonless forms

to think about:- duplicators - easy and cheap to run, but will require a different drum for each colour and you are limited in the colours available. If you want 2 colours (except for the 2-colour Riso), it means 2 passes and I wouldn't want to take on any jobs that required tight...

    MGI vs Indigo

If the information I've been given is correct the MGI machine uses the Konica Minolta print engine off of the older generation 6500, so it's not surprising that the image area is more matt than, for example, an older generation Xerox. BTW, I'm not really getting this argument that litho is more...

    Fight of the century

As I understand it, KM are not ready yet to supply pukka samples in the UK (the RIP software isn't completely finished yet, they haven't got their "production" machine installed in their showrooms, etc.) so I think they are a little way off showing it at it's best. Xerox came in for a visit...

    Fight of the century

Hmmm... just got some indicative pricing from X on the 1000 (apparently the decision's not made yet whether to actually have an 800) and it's only 24% more than the price on a c8000 I have from KM. The spec is much higher than the c8000, including the 5th colour & a couple of other nice bits +...

How much fertiliser do you have to spread over it? Would well rotted manure be suitable?

    Fight of the century

I'm with you overscan and am not really any the wiser after seeing it at ipex. Funnily enough, between this and the x800/1000, the Xerox looked closer to a finished product. Although (& despite what I've heard on this forum!!) Xerox were clear that the 800/1000 was not a shipping product yet...
