Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

3 Months isn't terrible but hopefully they'll take that time to clean up and rebuild a lot of it. A lot of the DeskPack 14.0.X panels don't work correctly (won't collapse/resize or expand). Lately it's been band-aids or ostrich behavior when you point something out that's very glitchy.

For over ten years I edited every PDF with Illustrator.

I used to do the same up until ~2002. I went to GraphExpo saw Pitstop and bought it on the spot.

    Acrobat vs. Fonts

Because Illustrator is not a really PDF editor. It's kind of like using a butter knife instead of a steak knife. Or a paperclip instead of a screwdriver. Yeah, it will work - most of the time - but it may cause you all kinds of problems and break things. Beyond Pitstop there's also Neo and Packz.

Rasterizing Vector and getting inconsistent color

I should probably elaborate on this. This is not intended to be a thread hijack. Simply put, an object in illustrator assigned transparency: multiply and fill: overprint will cause problems but it gets way more complex than that and this is what I am going to explain. This can be maddening when...

Rasterizing Vector and getting inconsistent color

Could it be overprint/transparency settings being double applied? This is one that snags us every once in a while in Illustrator for both vectors and rasters, process or spot.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/10/arts/design/hermann-zapf-96-dies-designer-whose-letters-are-found-everywhere.html?_r=0 I'll never forget his commentary on Helvetica. It was quite affirming to my own views about it and typography in general.

How Do I Persuade The Management That We Need Colour Management?

A lot of the customers I deal with honestly have no clue what GRACoL, G7, SWOP, FORGRA etc. actually mean BUT they do require one to be qualified/certified to even qualify as a potential vendor. For us it would be a huge opportunity cost.

Our plating vendor and ink vendor both bring in people who work jointly with us to calibrate annually (for free). The software we purchased our selves. It's just a cost of doing business these days.

    Color Management without Linearization

@motormount I'm having a hard time understanding what you're saying. Boiled down to absolute basics it works like this (I'm going to gloss over a lot): Every CtP doesn't image the same A CtP will have (pick your chosen term: TVI - tonal value increase, TVD - tonal value decrease, Dot gain, Dot...

    Color Management without Linearization

Willing to elaborate on this? I think that you're implying if you have multiple identical PTRs for example of the same vintage that this is overkill. The universal "it depends" certainly applies. I steadfastly believe in (somewhat redundant) linearization for multiple devices even if they...

It's a two way street. I can't tell you how many times I've been dismissed because "hell, I have kids your age / older than you" and the fact that I look ~10 years younger than I actually am. I was born in '86 for those wandering. I also love the fact that I still look 20 while most of my...

    Security Foils

It's basically the same technique as cast and cure UV coating. Micro (nano?) etching of a film, coating or foil creates light refraction and/or diffusion. There's an entire KURZ foil set called Light Line of standard ones but they can also be custom manufactured. Some country's currency uses...

    Job Training

I get so sick of hearing "We can't find qualified people who want to work" from the other managers around here. Suggest a training program with rewards for achievement the higher ups chime in "We cannot afford that". Which begs the question can you afford not to run the plant efficiently?
