PMS vs Spot best practices for various presses

Each presses DFE can be set on how to handle blacks. Whether it be 100%K or Pantone Black. You have to choose. And how to handle to the overprints. Maybe in your case, someone was messing, or I mean adjusting the settings for a specific job, and forgot to turn it back to your shops "default"...

    Print United vs Print/Graph Expo

The last Print show seemed like a majority of vendors that were there seemed to be targeted to small shops. And quite of few of the vendor were selling the same sorta equipment with a different name. It was disappointing. I have been on the fence about going, as it is only 3 hours away, but the...

    Automation in prepress

I would totally agree, and would add, that the powers that be need to give that person the time to develop the automation too. And not throw so much at them, they can't focus on the automation. Otherwise they will get the low hanging fruit done, but then they will stop, because they just don't...

    creative cloud subscription a ripoff

Wow, I was just look at my companies actual CDs of Creative Suite 6. And yes, I have downloaded the disk images so I can put them on the network to install on different computers, as we have a volume license. And some of those computers at the time did not have CD drives. I can tell you, if I...

    Kodak Sonora X plates?

Anyone using auto plate loading on press with these plates? If so, how are the plates working with it. I've heard with the X, it was an issue. We have auto loaders on our presses, and wouldn't switch to process-less without being able to still use our auto loaders.

    Help_kodak magnus 800

I don't remember the error we've had in the past. But sometimes there is a rainbow type pattern on the backside of the plate that can cause some issues in the Magnus. And if you can rotate the plate so the rainbow is NOT in the area of the sensors, that should help. Not sure if that is what is...

Printing in the US costs 3x as much as in Europe?

I would be interested to know if it was simply a location price difference. Like New York vs Chicago vs Los Angeles vs Dallas. It might not be country wide, only that specific geographic areas.

Suggestions for a replacement workflow needed

We run Prinergy, and looked at XMF a year or so ago. It looked pretty interesting, but for us it was missing the Rules Based Automation function, which we use a lot. I know now that some of the automation could be achieved via Enfocus Switch. Still definitely worth a look.

    Adobe Acrobat 11

Simple answer is Fusion Pro is a plugin for Adobe Acrobat. And they have a companion plugin that will work with Adobe InDesign too, to help speed up the design work in Acrobat. But the final work needs to be done in Adobe Acrobat.

Variable Data Printing Software - Need Feedback

Going back to the original questions: Does the software perform in the manner you would expect? Yes. Was it easy to learn? Yes. Could the output file go directly to your print queue without any additional modifications? Yes, in theory. And what features are “must haves” before you would consider...

Variable Data Printing Software - Need Feedback

vdpdf, Conversion might not be as much as an issue. I tried with a PDF that already had bleed and crop marks in the file, which incorrectly altered the page size and duplicated the crop marks. Maybe a way around this would be to put a note saying to include the PDF or image to include bleed...

Variable Data Printing Software - Need Feedback

I gave it a quick try too. 1. Initial reaction, like the look and feel. 2. I do like all the options for the layout on the first step. 3. I agree with another poster about step two, being a bit confusing to load both the data file and pdf into the same area. 4. Would be nice to have the top '1...

    Process-free Plates

Out of curiosity, which don't? I've only seen a couple and they were quite low contrast. Although, I heard that one is in the process of making a newer version with a higher contrast.

Xerox has had their share of problems

Basha, don't you mean Illustrator? Possumgal, I haven't used Multi-Ad Creator, but that sounds like something that would be closer to features in InDesign or at least that could be achieved with plug-ins. Even though Illustrator will let you do multiple art boards, which is nice. But InDesign...

while I am waiting for kodak to call back

Could be a sensor having a hard time reading the plates on occasion. We've had that here, with a rainbow banding on the back side of the Fuji plates, that will sometimes cause issues with our Magnus. So now, we look for it when we are loading the plates, and correct the issue before it ever gets...

    Font-Specific Trap Error

Trying not to take over the thread. But seeing someone else post about Roboto, reminds me about the Release Notes for Prinergy where it references it in quite a few versions. And then checking on Kodak's Partner Portal, I found a link to this article...

    Canon Vario Print 140

We have the 135, and service calls for us, in the beginning we quite frequent, but we also push the limit as the stock we run. Right up to and sometimes over what the machine is supposed to run. But when we run it right in the middle of the specs, it runs great. We've got almost 20mil on the...
