    View Separations without Adobe Professional

Why do you need to actually view separations in 2012 (almost 2013)? You aren't still printing separated, are you? Overprinting, sure. Adobe Reader 9 and later do that automatically (and for free) on PDFs targeted for print.

    PDF ink coverage?

This is not true in many cases. 1 - Images comes in all sorts of forms that can be output on a CMYK device w/o conversion. For example, Black&White, Grayscale, Spot Colors or DeviceN. 2 - Not all printers are CMYK. Many include other colors than just those - especially inkjets. And, again...

    PDF ink coverage?

NO!!!! Photoshop is NOT a PDF RIP. The results you obtain when opening a PDF up in Photoshop are purely for image import. You should NEVER EVER EVER (did I say that enough???) use it for anything else!!

    PDF Preflight Tools

And in case you were not aware, Acrobat's Preflight includes support for creating "droplets" to enable EXACTLY the type of workflow you are asking for here.

Photoshop history logs - detailed metadata

Actually, all of the original members of the Creative Suite + the video suite, all support it. It was a key feature introduced across the suite in CS4.

Photoshop history logs - detailed metadata

Good call! It's great stuff and I wish more people would use it. Clearly, these people don't get it :(. Yes, the files will be larger. But compared to the HUGE size of the images that I am sure are being created, the metadata won't really make a dent. It will have (practically) zero impact...

Acrobat - locked PDFs - RIP

I guess so... The simple process of converting a PDF to a raster image, otherwise known as RIPping a PDF, does NOT modify the PDF and thus is NOT subject to security restrictions EXCEPT for printing. If the conversion to image is done as part of an "export" or "save as" process (such as...

Acrobat - locked PDFs - RIP

RIPping is the process of creating a bitmap (raster) from the source format (PDF in this case). That is NOT EDITING. It's the same thing a viewer (such as Acrobat) does, just to a static image instead of a dynamic one on screen. Trapping the actual file IS editing and WOULD fail on a file...

Acrobat - locked PDFs - RIP

Nope, just meant printing directly to the device and skipping the RIP/DFI. However, just an FYI - if you print a secured PDF to Postscript, you can't refry it! The Postscript can only be printed - it can't be redistilled.

Acrobat - locked PDFs - RIP

that would be a BAD assumption. As long as you gave the permission to PRINT the PDF, there is no reason that a RIP shouldn't be able to print. What if you open in Acrobat and print directly?

    Spot colors and gradients?

I am not aware of any such problems. What software are you using to create these spot color-based gradients? Are you seeing problems on teh screen? Are you seeing problems at print time? Did you print directly from the application? If not, then how did you print? Please help us help you by...

    Acrobat Preflight 9 vs X

Rob - thanks, that's exactly what I needed! I see the issue - will investigate.

    Acrobat Preflight 9 vs X

Because Separation All means that the object should appear on ALL plates but doesn't actually have a real color associated with it. Converting it to grayscale will cause it to appear ONLY on the black plate.

    Acrobat Preflight 9 vs X

It appears that if you run the flattener by itself, as opposed to as part of a conversion to one of the PDF standards (such as PDF/X or PDF/A), then it will invoke additional font optimizations that are perfectly valid for "regular" PDF. As such, we are not inclined to correct it since it is...

Acrobat X Output Preview not accurate

Given that the VAST MAJORITY of Acrobat users on the Mac obtain their copies as part of the entire Creative Suite, we honestly haven't seen the need to create a demo for the Mac. Of course, you never know what the future may bring...

Acrobat X Output Preview not accurate

Looks like the problem was identified (incorrect user settings), but I'll add a few bits. 1 - Acrobat 8 is no longer supported and has a number of issues we've addressed over the 5+ years! Stop using it :). 2 - PLEASE use PDF/X files if you are working in the print industry. Anything else...

Acrobat X Output Preview not accurate

First and foremost, we need you to post an actual PDF file for us to be able to confirm all of your assumptions about the data in the PDF vs. the presentation in Output Preview. Screen shots are useless as we have no actual data to work with. Second, it appears from your screen shots that the...

    Acrobat Preflight 9 vs X

Thanks for the file! I am unable to reproduce this with the current 10.1.4 version of Acrobat X. Can you confirm that you are also on the current build? Thanks!
