How do you catch booklets as they exit your digital printer's finisher?

This is really funny to me (we use boxes too). We have all this incredible technology and machines that contain the end result of brilliant engineering over decades...that everyone still uses a cardboard box to collect the output with.

    How to calculate shipping weight

Yeah, that's the same method I just described, except they've already come up with the "weight-per-square-whatever" measurement for you. Yes, that is the easiest to use and best-case scenario but if you don't have that supplied, sometimes you've just gotta figure it out yourself.

    How to calculate shipping weight

I take a sheet (or whatever scrap you can find that you can accurately measure) of each substrate we print on and weigh it as accurately as I can. I convert that weight into a "weight-per-square-inch" number, example: 0.38 oz / (8.5" * 14") = 0.0032 oz/in^2 I got the 0.38 oz by weighing a...

Sold 1 photo print in past 7 weeks. How do you guys find buyers?

I mean, I just spent about 30 seconds on your website and didn't see anything mentioning that you guys sell photo prints. If I was trying to get my photos printed, I would not get the impressions your company does that from being on your website.

I think there are plenty of customers who don't mind the increased risk of getting burned and prefer the substantial price savings.

OSX vs Windows 10 for Pre-Press...

That is the strangest RAM usage I've seen in awhile. It's swapping 21GB while simultaneously holding onto 13 GB of cached files? Firefox using 5-6 GB of RAM alone? Something seems wrong there. I don't think your RAM/swap usage is typical.

OSX vs Windows 10 for Pre-Press...

Windows and MacOS both can work just fine with 16 GB, or even 8 GB. I use an iMac with 32GB and it only uses around 16 GB for programs and just caches files with all the rest. If you have less, just make sure you're not keeping a bunch of Chrome tabs open or 3-4 open Adobe programs...

OSX vs Windows 10 for Pre-Press...

The patches for Intel's security vulnerabilities decreased performance on all computers using Intel chips: PCs, Macs, and even cell phones. The performance decrease is almost unnoticeable for everyday users and around 20% for those using their computer at top utilization (which it's probably not...

Small Shops: POS / accounting / payroll ?

Why no online accounting? Their computing environment is probably more data secure than most small shops'? Can access from any computer, don't loose anything if your computer or backup crashes, etc...

    Company embeds microchips in employees

A passive RFID chip isn't capable of "tracking" anything real time. It will only track what it's used for. Same story with a wearable ID badge. Except you can't forge an employee's RFID chip (as easily). Honestly, we should probably go the route of facial recognition instead of implanting RFID...

    PDF Workflow Question

I think the only other way you can control how the customer views the PDF if you can't require PDF/X-4 is if they have to view the PDF in a software environment you control - a link to an online PDF viewer that is set up the way you need it. Otherwise they'll just open up your email with PDF...

OSX vs Windows 10 for Pre-Press...

We've got a local repair shop with an Apple certified tech that will swap out iMac hard drives with SSDs (that we supply) for around $130 total. You do a time machine backup before you take it in, restore from it when you're back, and boom! Can't even tell it's been opened up when it's done...

OSX vs Windows 10 for Pre-Press...

I think there are plenty of solutions that will give you the best of both worlds without you needing to completely change your hardware and OS. A Mac can run both MacOS and Windows. I personally use a Windows 10 virtual machine running on Virtual Box (https://www.virtualbox.org/) on a Mac. If...
