Is there such a thing as a 2pt round score for a sheetfed press?

We used to perforate 15 up on a modified 28" 6 col Akiyama, using the common impression cylinders for units 5-6 of the press. As we never ran spot colours on that press, we were able to remove some of the gripper pads and fit jackets to the cylinder faces (3 face common back cyl) and with no ink...

    P A N T O N E Thoughts on 9/11

You do understand the meaning of the term "ironic" don't you? I just have to ask....i don't know why.....but i must!!!

    Komori damp chromes sensitive

Hmmmmm... I'm guessing you have never actually run a Komori then?? The issues discussed in the OP and the relevent replies have one common factor, and this factor can be an issue on ANY press in the world. Its a simple chemistry issue. If your water fountain chemistry is not matched with your...

    Who teaches the teachers?

This has been a very interesting read, especially coming from a mere printing machinist in Australia. I will award points to either side, but feel that i am well under qualified to name a victor!! :) All of you gentlemen have a very firm grasp on the theory of printing, my only question is do...

Testing press colour makeready performance standard

Manufacurers are never going to be able to properly simulate real world conditions tho, and at the end of the day they are desperately trying to sell a printing press. In a perfect world with everything in perfect order lightning make ready times are acheivable, but as Turbotom mentioned, its...

    Compressable blanket rejuvenators

Both PBR and a little paint stripper are good solutions, also try a small patch between the packing and the blanket, usually tissue paper or maybe some 80gsm bond or heavier if your desperate :) Bear in mind it will show up in screens, but if its a bingle in an area thats carrying a solid...

    stories/anecdotes

Every second week i run an afternoon shift without an offsider, on a 40" komori....last week i did 91,000 impressions on monday, 87 on tuesday, and then only 57 on wednesday... but i had 7 make readies to do, impression and blanket washers to change. All this was listed in the run book, but i...

    printing on bond

We use hostmann impression series ink, and find that quick turn around is the key. We run jubs on bond of up to 300,000, and break it up into 2 stacks at a time, so generally a maximum of 20,000. The ink is still fairly wet to touch but does not set off in our pallet turner, and after 2 stacks...

    Managing press sheets

I tag an issue, be it scumming or a hickey, and very clearly note what the issue was, how many affected sheets, and if overs have been run to compensate if required. Make ready sheets at the bottom of the pile are clearly flagged with a tag that has "MR below flag" written on it, and then i use...

Novice -- might have damaged press -- any advice appricated.

The ring is the adjustment of the pressure setting of the nip in what is effectively the metering roller. I'm sorry but i cant remember how to set the form to the plate on a compac, been a long while since i ran a press with one! I would *doubt* that you have done any serious damage (dont quote...

    Ryobi 512

I ran a 512H for a spell...it was a fairly easy little press to run, got along at a reasonable speed, and was absolutely perfect for what we used it for... ie; 2 col bus cards, LH etc. We ran a fair bit of 2 pass 4col work on it, and had no issues with registration, but be aware that its...

Old school and/or New press ?

We have recently put on an apprentice, and rather than have him sweeping the floor and doing the bins all day (seriously, those jobs CAN be done in 10mins!!) we have had him actually printing on an old GTO46 (with appropriate supervision of course) and assisting with loading on the 40" and 26"...

    Komori 40" creasing..

Just a footnote on this issue... This issue continued for a little while, and after having to open the swing arm grippers to accomodate the extra thickness on 350gsm board, i swapped back to a full size 720x1020 100gsm job, and the fit and creasing were absolutely shocking. A quick re-think on...

    Komori 40" creasing..

Put a new set of rollers in one unit and a new metering roller in first unit, allowing me to cut a lot of water and ink out of unit one to achieve balance, and this did improve the situation a little....and certainly improved the print result :) Still getting a little creasing, and some run in...

    Komori 40" creasing..

i assume your talking about the side lay roller spring?? Yeah i run it as light as possible, have found too much pressure will give you a slight mis-register, and varying the pressure on the spring doesn't seem to affect the problem on this stock...

    Komori 40" creasing..

We are having a few minor probs with our 40" Komori... Firstly, longitudinal creasing (grip to tail), always on the drive side of the press, and only on the light stock that we use a lot of(80gsm 'velvet'). It is not terribly bad, not enought to pull up the job, but irritating nonetheless...

    Plate clamps set to zero

We had a similar prob with an old Roland rekord, more a case of mulitple monkeys over the years fiddling with shit they shouldn't have.. Setting the front clamps to zero on the scale caused more probs than simply leaving them alone, at least they had been more or less zeroed from last job...

    Picture framing

Perhaps too much spray powder on the first pass?? Transferring onto blankets and affecting the plate image?? Too much spray will definately give a ghosted image of first pass when backing up...try washing blankets a little more often or even de-spraying by moving the job back a unit and using...

    problem with carbonization

Try running hostmann impression series rather than resista, its far better IMHO. Follow the rules...minimum ink, minimum water and minimum impression... and when running on bond, break up the run into shorter runs and try to back it up asap, especially with hostmann ink (been using it for years...
