    Can you export this file?

Hi Stephen, sorry for the late response It's been a hectic week. A lot of CMYK-converting to be done.. :P This is what I found: When you set your color management policy to ignore liked profiles this does not apply to "old" documents so the gcr-profile is still active in the placed image. You...

    Can you export this file?

Ok, clearly we have a different view on color management and what to do and what not to do with an Indesign doc from a client. In my initial post I was curious to see If anybody else is assigning all profiles and I wanted to show a way of doing it (if one would like to, not saying that everyone...

    Can you export this file?

Guess you did not look at post no 4. And I did not altered the file, I color managed it "by the book" and did a tutorial how to do it.

    Can you export this file?

The test file that I posted shows various different problems that DO occur in real life everyday, but maybe not all at once. I thought this was the Color Management section of the forum? And printers do need to up their color management game. So why not correct the wrongs? I know what...

    Can you export this file?

No one said it was as easy as converting RGB, but we are doing it all day and it works great. I think It's better to solve the problem instead of accept it as a fact.

    Can you export this file?

Stephen, I disagree. CMYK and RGB numbers Is not a color, the numbers always depends on the output (display, printer or press) thats why we need icc-profiles. Lets say a client have a orange logo that is 40m and 100y the output can differ alot if you don't color manage. IMHO thats what icc...

    Can you export this file?

I think Adobe should provide this kind of color management features as a native function. It would be great to have a setting to not convert CMYK line art. But I don't understand why you doesn't want to convert any CMYK-photos? Best regards,

    Can you export this file?

I agree with you both about the above. Of course you shoud have a well documented color management policy both for customers and staff, and we do. I know about all the issues with converting CMYK to CMYK (we use device links for this with inkreduction/gcr, in a PDF/X-4 workflow). But thats not...

    Can you export this file?

My point is: If a photo or graphic element has an assiged profile (in the original file) you should color manage that object correct no mather what the designers colors settings are. Since most designers does not care or use default settings in InDesign.

    Can you export this file?

So if the customer have turned off color management in InDesign and no profiles are assigned to the document or the images you would do what? There have to be some kind of color management since you need to convert from RGB to CMYK. I guess you would pick up the phone and call the designer and...

    Can you export this file?

I would not contact the author of the document just because the document has a wrong document CMYK-profile or placed content aren´t assigned with it's own ICC, since I know that the authors answer would result in: me doing the above actions. And I would have to call almost every time someone...

    Can you export this file?

Thanks for all you files! Here is the result (Just one of the files was "correctly" color managed, by my opinion). Here is a video of how I work, to get the best result when handling a InDesign document from a customer or colleague. This is how I set up the color settings in Adobe CC. In...

Pantone+ 7433 Solid Coated (Adobe CC wrong Lab values?)

Thanks Stephen, since Kodak and CGS have the same values I trust in the values now. The difference is probably related to the printed swatch book, backing and measure instrument (or all three). Please measure your printet swatch when you have a spared minute. Best regards,
