Replacing Hardware RIP with newer hardware running Virtual Machine

I've setup several proofing RIPs on VMs in VMware vSphere, depending on the hardware thats needed to connect there are a couple ways to get it to pass through to the VM. I've configured PCI cards and USB to get passed through but not serial, I'm sure it's possible but don't have any experience...

    Sentinel Font

Fair enough. I was just trying to point out that many fonts (including the one in question) aren't free, although many people treat them that way.

    Sentinel Font

Which links you back to the paid font download...bottom line is the font requires a license. The font is someone's IP and getting around paying for it is piracy. http://www.wired.com/2015/10/you-wouldnt-think-it-but-typeface-piracy-is-a-big-problem/

Creating an ICC profile from a fingerprint?

i1 Profiler and BasICColor Print are the two applications I'd recommend for profile creation. Depending on what version of EFI/Fiery you have you may have the option there also. If this is your first time creating profiles, I'd highly recommend bringing in someone to help you get it done it...

Creating an ICC profile from a fingerprint?

Gordo I believe the issues is that the OP does not have the reference data for the chart that is printed on the finger print, and without that there is no reasonable way to read the chart and create a profile. And of course you are correct on validating the integrity of the press sheet...

Creating an ICC profile from a fingerprint?

The color consultant is correct, you need more information from the printer to do what you're trying to do. If the chart is a standard chart in a standard layout (IT8/7.4 or ECI2002) you may be able to get what you need off it without additional information from the printer.

ColorPath Sync DLP and HP Smartstream Color Management Question

The DLP should be color managing the CMYK values to what will match the output intent on your Indigo. If you want the EXACT CMYK values output on the Indigo you'd have to skip the DLP. I'm not familiar with any of the specific products you're using but many applications have a way to protect...

Paper White M1 and M0 Differences

Mihas, thanks for the information. I'll revise my statement to say that M1 Lab values cannot be predicted from M0 Lab values, which is the most easily accessible information for most people. Would that be correct?

Paper White M1 and M0 Differences

I'n my experience I haven't seen great results (spreadsheet from IDEAliance, I know there are others out there) with the substrate calculator going to much bluer stocks, like what's being discussed here.

Paper White M1 and M0 Differences

What proofing system and paper are you working with? It's possible that the vendor has a 2013 dataset created in M1 that you can use without having to upgrade instruments. From what I've see it can make a big difference if you profile with M0 vs M1. If you want a blue proof try to match to...

Paper White M1 and M0 Differences

Gordo is correct, there is no direct relationship between M0 and M1. It's quite possible that your -3 measured in M0 would be a -4 in M1 but it may not be. If you don't have an M1 measuring device stick with a M0 dataset or upgrade your measuring device if you want to work with M1 data.

    Epson 9900 maintenance tank question

I believe the left tank ends up getting used on larger borderless prints. That said I've worked with too many of these printers to count and I've never seen a drop of ink in the left tank (or middle on an 11880). I've always just swapped the right and left cartridge at some point when the right...

    Grayscale PDF not printing Grayscale

Try this -Select All -Cut -Mode CMYK -Select Channels tab, select black -Paste Another possible option is convert to RGB (make sure R=G=B) and tell your DFE to treat RGB Grey as Black, I beleive all Fiery DFEs can do this

    Grayscale PDF not printing Grayscale

Have you tried copying the grayscale image and pasting it into the black channel of a new CMYK image in Photoshop? It's not elegant but it should work.

    Color proofing systems

Yes that is a good choice for a printer, but without a front end it's not a proofer. Likely the best options for that will be from GMG, CGS-ORIS or EFI, depending on your needs.

pMS 304 versus pMS 305 Question

No Title Here is the Coated, Uncoated and Bridge 2nd Edition 2nd Printing (Left) and @nd Edition 3rd Printing (Right) it really looks like they changed the ink. Newer 304 is much less yellow. All other colors look fairly unchanged. The older books have lived in a drawer for a little over a year...
