Does the older Mac run 10.5 and your new iMac run 10.6? If so I am guessing your are storing your files on a SMB type server? Then the way 10.6 writes or see's files on this type of server is different then 10.5. p

I never found the background processing that relevant. I rather know my PDF is done, close my file and move onto the next one. Instead I must wait for the warning box to close, then close my file. I have not found a way to turn off the background procesing. p

CS3 is a perfectly good version of Illustrator. Just save your file as a eps with CS3 version level. Good luck, p

Try printing without the fonts loaded. I assume you are printing directly from one application to the device. Do all applications fail to print on only this one? Also try to print to a file (PDF) with the same application. p
