Canon w8400 'prints' but no ink comes out

Thanks benstarr. That's exactly what I ended up doing. Gambling with a new printhead and luckily, I won. It's printing perfectly now. A $500 printhead was a little less expensive than an $8,000 machine. But I do understand that it is inevitable that I will have to replace it.

What would you charge for this job?

It would be nice if everyone stated the area they are in since that makes a difference in the price. And if you could mention if you had done similar jobs in the past and at what price, that would give everyone a rough idea of market value of a particular product/service. (I know, I know, 'But...

Canon w8400 'prints' but no ink comes out

My ten year old Canon w8400 (pigment ink) has suddenly stopped printing. At first, it would just hang up before it would start printing. The machine would wakeup and start making it's usual noises when a job is sent to it and as the print head would come out, it would stop like it decided to...

Catalogs still play a critical role in driving business.

Why do a lot of people act like books and paper are some kind of ancient, mystical artifacts that have been dead, buried, and unseen for centuries?

    Fusion Pro and intelligent barcode

Crap! Thanks MailGuru! You only have to get that number once so I forget that I have it once I put it into the presort software. Unless your managing Mailer IDs for other companies, which technically, I think you are supposed to do for all your customers.

    Fusion Pro and intelligent barcode

Xcelprint, you are correct. Postage Saver and the other two presort software I mentioned would create a column in your file that contains all the relevant data for the barcode. The only tricky thing you got to do is select the barcode font when you are in FusionPro and it's really not that...

    Fusion Pro and intelligent barcode

Technically, you can't use the USPS' IMsb tool because it was designed for businesses that do their own mailing. You're supposed to specify the mail owner whenever you do a mailing for a customer and there is no where to do that in the IMsb tool. For small mailings, you can get away with...

    Envelopes through Versant 80

You didn't notice the side bar on the right? There is an ad for Epson, Ultimate, and Enfocus. And there are ads at the bottom of this page, Presswise, Collins Ink...

    Envelopes through Versant 80

We run all kinds of envelopes on our C75. I've heard a lot of good about envelopes running on the Versant 80 and 2100 so I am looking forward to the upgrade. Like other people on this thread, it was over a year before we found the little envelope adapter in tray 6. The C75 is picky with envelope...

What finishing equipment do you have?

Like everyone said, finishing equipment depends upon what you produce. I think the Light Production Finisher is/has a booklet maker, if I remember correctly, so you don't need that for your calendars. A slitter for business cards would be nice, a cutter for the flyers is a must. Actually, I...

    Cutter / Slitter / Creaser

No, that is not a weird question at all and I would like to know the answer as well. We used that exact stock about two months ago and it was no fun trimming on the cutter. Had to do it in small lifts. Then last month, we did a job on the Mohawk 100lb text 2up magnet letters thinking it would be...

What shows do you go to?

We had a lot of fun at Graphics of the Americas in Miami. No, not Miami that part sucked. The show was more fun and interesting then I expected. Saw the coolest self-mail converter from a manufacturer in Brazil. The seminar I attended was far better than I had anticipated (it was about mobile...

What shows do you go to?

We're going to Graphics of the Americas in Miami next week. First show I've been to since Mailcom in Atlantic City in 2008 so I understand the budget thing.

    EDDM problems with USPS

I've been doing mailings for about 8 years now and was one of the first people to do EDDM in our County when the Post Office introduced back in 2009 (I think). I showed up at some post offices and they didn't know what I was giving them! Lol! A few months ago, I had my first screwed up mailing...

    Salary Negotiation

Back when I was an employee, I asked my employer what it was like to be boss. He pointed at the front door and said, "Every customer that walks through that door is my boss, so I'm not the one in charge." To opine more specifically on the topic, similarly to what AP90 said, us employers are the...

    Printing Quotes-maybe a new sub-forum?

I'm sure there is more than one 40" press owner on this forum. Besides, there is more to print estimating than just comparing apples to oranges. Budgeted Hourly Rates can be tricky, someone might need help.

    Printing Quotes-maybe a new sub-forum?

I like the idea especially when you have something that is very custom or unique and you can't compare it to any of the online cookie cutters. And pricing is a huge animal with lots of theories and complications.

    Sharpening Cutter Blade

I bought a new blade from Jorson & Carlson and had them sharpen my old one just to try them out. I usually use a local guy but my old blade had an arch or something that he said he couldn't correct but J&C said they had the equipment. I'm in Maryland and I think it was less than $50 with...
