    Prepress production tracking software

Any of the many MIS solutions for printers can capture times and allow scheduling of jobs. These are intended to manage the entire printing process from customer order through to delivery, so may be more complex than what you need to manage Prepress only. If you need simple task management only...

Death to my Old Mac a saurus

As the 27" iMac has been discontinued, we replaced an old one with a Mac Mini M2 Pro paired with a 28" Samsung and a 24" Dell monitor. It's a great little machine. If you need 16:10 screens, you could use the Dell 30". IMO the Apple displays are overpriced which is why we didn't go that way.

Folding A4 saddle stitched booklet to DL. Can it be done?

This is called crash folding, small quantities can be done by hand, there are machines to do larger quantities, check with your local mailing house if they can do this for you.

There are a number of soft proofing solutions on the market, but Insite is the only one that will render a RIPPED proof from Prinergy and mirror all activity in the workflow and proofing solution.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a great deal of demand for dot matrix printers in this group.

    Prepress Fun

I also had a Scan Man (Logitech iirc) and the guide frame to go with it. I had a desktop waxer, the one with the motorised rollers and the heated wax bath, one day I forgot to turn it off at the end of the day, next morning the shop was full of smoke and the waxing machine was under the bench...

How to differentiate IS0 12647 vs FOGRA

Technically a wet proof should be produced on the same press, same stock and same separations as the final printed product, at this stage any colour profiling should already have been applied as separations have already been completed. Ink densities should have been measured and recorded from...

Disable all your startup items unless they are absolutely critical, including Creative Cloud, One Drive etc, I had a Dell Workstation (Xeon processor, SSD, Windows for Workstations) that was performing like a dog, disabled startup items and now it flies. The machine was going fine until...

Do I have to laminate both sides for folds

Creasing and scoring are often used interchangeably, I have always referred to the reshaping of paper using a rule and matrix as scoring, as that is what I was taught as an apprentice. I don't know if the definitions have changed over time, or if they differ geographically. This is the result of...

Funny how so many customers "don't understand" when it comes to materials they have supplied! Perhaps "don't understand" is code for "it's your problem now"

How to Embossing on an Offset Press

Not crash numbering, just numbering. Crash numbering is when you number an entire NCR or OTC set by using the impression of the numbering machines to crash through the set, most commonly seen on continuous collating machines such as a Didde Glasser.
