Inexpensive, Straightforward Means to Emboss/Stamp/Mark Faux Hard Book Covers?

We have an old hot foil stamper that we used for photos but have stopped using it. The lead type rounds off after a while and we had trouble finding new lead type. Also, old fashioned lead typesetting loses its glamour after a few hundred jobs. The Impress is digital and sets up fast. It has a...

Inexpensive, Straightforward Means to Emboss/Stamp/Mark Faux Hard Book Covers?

We have an Impress Foil Xpress machine that does exactly what you are looking for. It sells into the book cover market. The only issue is what you consider "inexpensive" I think we paid around $7000 for ours. We have used it to foil decorate photos, leather tags and a number of other things. I...

We´re looking for fresh ideas to expand our bussiness

Hi Vinchu, I think JWheeler's comments are spot on as well. Product assortment and marketing those items are equally important. Based on some of the things you are already doing it sounds like you are willing to get into retail consumer category products as well as the customary commercial...

Any info - Intec ColorCut flatbed Diecutter - Small, Cost Effective Die Cutter

SK - I have no experience of those machines but they look interesting. We do run rotary and flatbed die cutters. The entry model that you have linked to looks to be suitable for prototyping or perhaps low volume, high end stationery. It looks like it can produce 30-45 sheets per hour which would...

    Button Machine | Suggestions ?

Looks good. If you are doing volume, get their circle punch- much faster than a circle cutter.

    Duplo UD300 Rotary Die Cutter

We have the manual feed version of the unit and like it a lot. We use it to die cut cardstock exclusively. We do our creasing on a DC645 so I can speak to the die cutter's creasing capability. For low volume die cutting we also use a flat bed steel rule cutter - this is the entry level it seems.

Hardware suggestions - 350gsm full bleed duplex

Chris, On a small to mid-size printer I don't think there is a machine that prints full-bleed directly. If you are doing folded cards, you are going to need a finisher anyway so look at a creaser/cutter. You may as well get something like a Duplo DC-646 to cut and crease your cards out of a...

Printing in the US costs 3x as much as in Europe?

I expect gregbatch's comment about sizing is a good insight. We provide fullfillment for a UK customer who needs fast turnaround on a specialty product. They had commented that US prices were higher than Europe. Once they resized the product to make better use of our production capabilities that...

Recommended specialyy stocks for printing photos on the Xerox Versant 180?

Cliff, I work in a photo lab / digital press store. We use a Versant, A Fuji Frontier Photo Printer and an Epson Stylus Pro wide format. The Epson printers are a good choice for photo and as others have said the Xerox is not a photo printer. You should probably go with something like this:

End of the job category "Printer"

The article suggests the decline of employment in those categories are because demand for the end product is declining and productivity has gone up so there is less need for labor. What I would like to know is the decline in production declining to a point where the trades will continue to...

End of the job category "Printer"

From the Washington Post: Stop the presses. As of this month, “printer” and “screen printer” are no longer official jobs — at least as far as the Labor Department’s flagship release is concerned. The same goes for “printing support” jobs such as platemaking and prepress work. Each year...

    Printer Software Xerox Color 550

There is often a recovery partition on the device hard drive. I can't speak to the 550 status, but you might reload the software from that recovery partition if it exists.

Epson Stylus Pro 7900 all clogged up

We had a 7900 and I agree with Puch. A fiussy machine when in regular service, but 3 years of non-use probably killed the head. You can spend a lot of time messing with it but I doubt you can get it going again. Here is a guy who spent months working on his:

Recommended Monthly Volume for Versant 180

Cliff, I really think you are on the right track with the Versant. We do some standard commercial (commodity) printing on our Versant, but the main reason we have it is for specialized, boutique specialty products, for which it is a good machine. The printer sales guy doesn't really understand...

Recommended Monthly Volume for Versant 180

" Without using the press in this regular fashion, it's prone to service issues and they don't want to deal with that." We have a Versant and I can assure you that statement is complete baloney. As others have said, it is a probably pay-per-click commercial issue. with a minimum service fee...

Help with requirements for Photo Book Builder software.

Andrew, Both of those software solutions will sell a book/card/print system without necessarily requiring you to get a full end-to-end solution. We do not use their website solutions, just the online order and kiosk solutions. You can get a order portal and local order manager as a solution...
