Help with requirements for Photo Book Builder software.

We have used both the Photofinale (USA) and Dakis (Canada) solutions and are familiar with some others. There are quite a few choices, but it took most of the vendors about 4 years to have a pretty stable, easy to use solution, so this is a very big task to create that kind of software. Your...

    Competing with Xerox?

We had a similar situation with a college print shop across the street that also solicited the public. We still sometimes got orders from college departments because we were motivated to give quick turnaround. Their captive shop default was "it will be ready in a couple of days". We would...

    Small shop here...

Xcelprint, we are a small shop as well but have had wide format for printing indoor photo and corporate graphics printers for quite a while. I think you need to look at your current target market to decide how to proceed. If most of your work will be indoors and will be limited volume then...

    FUJIFILM & Xerox become Fuji—Xerox

Having done business with Fujifilm in photo paper and graphic arts media for over 30 years we have been watching this closely. Our two biggest vendors are merging. A lot of folks didn't know that a lot of higher end Xerox color equipment was manufactured by Fujifilm via the joint venture. I know...

Xerox waste toner bottle on backorder????

So it seems there are some bad bottles out there. We have a leaky seal on the one we got and called service. They advised there are some bad bottles including ones that prematurely report as being full. This explains why there have been shortages. The service line admitted they have a lot of...

Xerox waste toner bottle on backorder????

We had the same problem with our Versant toner waste bottles. We had ordered weeks ago. Finally our tech scrounged one for us but we were getting close to shutdown. We were not looking forward to emptying the existing bottle, but have done it in an emergency.

    Duplo DFL-500 Coat/Foil/Laminator

jdr99, One of our staff saw this unit at Print 17. We are going to make a followup visit on it at our local duplo Dealer and I will try to get back to you after we check it out in detail. The dealer said that wouldn't have a unit in until sometime in November.

    Xerox Versant 3100 vs 1000i

One additional consideration is the lifespan of the equipment. One of our Duplo machines has been in use while we have gone through three Xerox presses. When we replace a Xerox machine we are also replacing the inline finishing equipment. So the inline equipment get "purchased" much more...

    Marketing A Printshop

Hey Bill Print NJ I have limited expertise on website design but I do hack away on our wordpress CMS. I think your use of the Typewriter font is unusual and might relate to your thesis business - kind of a retro reference? It is remarkable how much that affects the look of your site. Since you...

    Marketing A Printshop

Manafaith, I wouldn't disregard social media just because it is the flavor of the week. Getting a following on Facebook is not simple, but it can be done. Start by following and recommending other businesses that you like. I think it works best when one of your staff puts up relevant content...

    Marketing A Printshop

I agree that a good website, outside sales and social media all play a role in marketing. I think the hard part for smaller operations is there are not resources or in-house skill to accomplish all that needs to be done. I would add that having a professional looking customer lobby can play an...

Thanks Laurens. My Dad used a large process camera and I enjoy seeing them. That is an excellent example you photographed - they are often huge. Watch out for the arc lamps!

Is worth to printing in house and if so them what digital printer to get

If you are getting around a 5 cent color click rate on the 700 I think your cost would only drop from your $4 down to $2.5 to $3 per piece? You still have to figure in the cost of the printer, labor maintenance and training if you are not an experienced operator. So, your savings could be zero...

What [printing] Conferences do you like? Where do you get marketing resources?

I just finished up at my main annual conference: IPIC2017 International Print + Imaging Conference. I feel like I get a lot from this annual event, but it aims at group of photo labs that also grew into digital press printing. As a newly elected (volunteer) board member of the IPI Member Network...

Looking for photo book and photo calendar online software

Printgeek, This software is in very wide use: https://www.photofinale.com/ It is a full system including order management. Thousands of photo labs use it and the book and calendar software is good. I use it but am not affiliated with the company. Consider joining a good group if you want to...

    Epson Stylus Pro 7900 problems . . . .

I agree with kdw 75. Most users aren't aware of the need for regular wiper blade maintenance. We clean monthly and replace yearly on our Epsons. Easy to do. There is lot's of info here:

    Morgana CardCutter vs Duplo DC545

In the US at least, the Duplo DC545 is past "end of life." I know a couple guys who have them and they often cannot get service or sometimes cannot get parts. I would recommend a DCS 615, DC 616 or DCS645. We had a 615 and liked it. We bought a used 645 and sold the 615. I am friends with the...

    advice on small die-cutter

UPDATE: I thought I might update our results from our small rotary die cutter quest that started last year. We bought the Duplo UD M 300 and like it a lot. We are saving 2-3 hours of labor each day and our staff is not bothered when we get a big die-cut order. Once we got the die maker to...
