    PDF READER for DUMB clients

Stephen, I was re-reading the post, and was wondering if you could help in directing me on how to run such a script? I can't seem to find a way to do it. Probably something I'm just overlooking. Thanks.

    PDF READER for DUMB clients

I have used it and tested it out. It is quite nice. Does some things nicer than what Acrobat does. Which I really like that it lists the images being used on a page and resolutions. And that it shows all the boxes, media, crop, bleed, trim, and art box in one window. As well as all the fonts...

    PDF READER for DUMB clients

Well, I've been following this thread, and have refrained from chiming in, but figured I would at this point. I think the title about "dumb" is misleading and could be better described as "uneducated" or "misinformed" "clients". And no matter what software we find or use, it will always be this...

    Two Sided Proofing

For us, we are a commercial shop, so pretty much every job, is different. We do have some standards, but we also do a book proof to make sure that the those in prepress have everything in the correct location. Pages, marks, color bars, and such. One of our estimators folds and cuts down our book...

    Two Sided Proofing

We used to use Epsons and manually flip, but just within the past year we got an ImpoProof with Canons. Epson backups weren't great, but were (for lack of a better term) cheap, made ok use of paper, and gave us some flexibility to print on other media for special projects if needed. The...

    The Problem Files

Yes we did, but we got a new intern every time, and they didn't follow instructions.

What is best Black for text?

I'll second Gordo, and Joe. And to add to Joe, not only the press software will change a "pack" black to just black, so will the workflow software in Prepress. These conditions will happen most of the time, if the settings are set that way. Which I would say a majority of the shops are set that...

    The Printer's Burden

Well, I'm we are not a "young" couple, but we go out for design ideas. And to see what the "kids" are doing these days. Even when we are not at work being tortured by print, we are still thinking about it. Is there a doctor in the house?

    The Printer's Burden

My fiancé is a proofreader, and we both read menus and comment on the fonts, kerning, spelling and overall design. But I'm the one that smells and loves to feel them. Some times we talk more about the menu than anything else.

    Chipping in Bindery

We don't have a 9100, and I don't deal with these kind of issues in our shop, but is stock an approved brand for the press? I know sometimes our field tech, will "blame" the paper. Not always is he right, but sometimes. Just a thought. Has anyone looked at or tried lowering the TAC on the page...

    The Printer's Burden

I pickup printed pieces to smell them, to see how "fresh" they are. I love the smell of a freshly printed piece. And of course, check for registration, paper, feel, spelling, and all the other stuff too. We are CURSED!

    Prinergy Backup/Storage Question

MattG, do you have RBA (Rules Based Automation). With being a "small" shop, I wouldn't think so, but I've been wrong before. Either way, like you said, you are the only one in Prepress, so speed of the backup is probably not really that big of an issue. 5400 RPMs over 7200, could make a...

    Prinergy Backup/Storage Question

We have Prinergy Connect on a VM, which gets backed up to a Enterprise NAS, and all our jobs are backed up to a different Enterprise NAS as well. As others have said: REDUNDANCY. I've seen too many drives fail before their time, and the only way to be safe is redundancy.

RGB to CMYK conversion in Pitstop

I would really look into Photoshop Actions, they are really easy to setup. Then you can run them from within Photoshop or make them into a "droplet". If you are using Indesign, there is a plugin called "LinkOptimizer" that could also do it for you without even leaving Indesign. What it does is...

    Ricoh waste toner bottles

We've been dumping ours for a while now. Sometimes our tech does them for us, sometimes we do them. All depends on the timing. It's not that fun, but it is easy to do. And if you are careful, it doesn't create a mess at all.

KBA Rapida 106 color bar question

We have two Rapida 106s, different flavors. But what I'm wondering if someone can enlighten me about the color bar specs. Why does the there need to be 15 mm of unprinted side edges of the color bar for the inline scanning. All the techs I've asked, they have basically just said that it is the spec.

Advice and suggestiongs on two sided impo proofing

Month of use update. Overall we really like this. Pros: This is WAY better than manually flipping paper. More consistent backups than manually flipping paper. Better use of employee's time. Instead of hearing someone say "your proof is up", or forgetting to flip the paper for a while. This...

Lead in space on Roll paper (Epson 9800)

Might not be able to answer, but from what software are you printing from? A RIP or direct, or another way. And then Mac or PC.
