Not only is there a different one for every system in the shop, but the administrator has also set them to expire every 20 days. AND, when you make up a new one, it has to be at least 10 characters long, combine upper and lower case, must contain at least one numeral, and one special character...

Xerox Versant 80 Maintenance... How difficult is it?

It all started about 5 or 6 years ago when Xerox made the unbelievably stupid decision to divest itself of all sales & service functions, and, divvy that out to dealers. They've lost an enormous amount of market share and credibility ever since.

If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. They'll never tell the difference.

Overtime: If car manufacturing was toleranced the same way as printing.

For a nominal surcharge, we can put you in one of our digital (assembled via 3-D printer) models. The quality is so close to the ones being assembled manually (offset), you'd need an expert with a loop to tell the difference.

Xerox Versant 80 Maintenance... How difficult is it?

At the shop I worked at before I retired, we were running (2) Versant 2100's. After about a year, the Fiery Hyper-RIP on one of them kept crashing. Technicians tried reloading it several time to no avail. They finally had to just replace it. Those Hyper-RIPs are $75,000 each. I'd hate to have to...

Xerox Versant 80 Maintenance... How difficult is it?

Listen to PricelineNegotiator. He knows what he's talking about. The older a machine gets, the more things go wrong, the higher the cost to your service provider to maintain it, so you pay a higher click charge. It costs much less for them to maintain a newer machine, so, your click charges...

    An offset run lengths question

Some employers who care about their people are either paying a set weekly salary (instead of hourly), or at least, some sort of guaranteed number of hours per week. In that scenario, one could rationalize: "Hell, I'm paying 'em anyway. They might as well be doing something....."

    Color correction

Actually, it's a color conspiracy. Multiple drones from an unknown source are seeding the atmosphere with diamond dust that distorts light refraction. This makes prints appear a little bluer than normal, but, rest assured, the color is correct.

    Konica Minolta C12000 supplies issues

We used to save bad/defective prints in a box beside the printer, and, would get credit back for them (Xerox). I don't know, but, if I were an equipment vendor, I would not agree to compensating for down time. Too many factors out of my control (shipping, parts availability, available repair...

    Old Challenge cutter

Be careful! Those old Challenge cutters (especially the 30.5" (305) were supposed to be pulled and removed from their installations a long time ago. Most technical repair people have been prohibited from their respective companies to work on them. The malfunctioning valves have been deemed too...

Ricoh C7200x paper catalog number order?

Don't know much about that printer, but, "paper catalogs" are usually a function of the RIP. Not the printer itself. What RIP are you using?

    Konica Minolta C12000 supplies issues

Totally Unacceptable! At the company I worked for before I retired, we had Service Level Agreements with several of our customers that dictated a 48-hour turnaround. Being down 3-days, much less 3 weeks, would have bankrupted us. We were running Xerox 2100's and they never questioned how much...

    Alabama Not Getting In

Credit to our local newspaper sports columnist Mike Bianchi who, I'll paraphrase: "Spoiled Alabama Fans whining about their THREE-loss team not getting an invitation to the College Football Playoff is like listening to Warren Buffett complain about not getting a senior discount."
