That's what Canon does on their equipment. I'm not sure why it's not common in other vendors.

Techs typically have no idea what they're talking about outside of the physical machine. He's probably going by something he heard in 2002 and thinks it's still relevant. That's not a knock on techs, it's just not part of their training.

We have an insurance client that sends a lot of junk like this as well. I always just save it as a postscript file and then use distiller with "press quality" to fix it.

Indigo is different enough where I don't really trust that it will work on all laser equipment. We just got a new machine with a Fiery after not using it for 12 or so years and I forgot how clunky Fiery is. I'd suggest setting up the "quick access" tab with your most common settings. Also, make HotFolders to simplify your workflow as much as possible.

I don't have a Ricoh, but we run Nekoosa Synaps on our Canon and it always prints extremely well. The only issues I have with it are static, but otherwise I've never needed even needed to make stock adjustments.

The spec sheets says you can only do that size simplex. You're not trying to duplex, are you?

I think he's just collecting it elsewhere. For example, our shop charges type time and database time for the setup, but we wouldn't charge more for the printing since it's an identical workflow to a static run.

To add to Ynot, I've never met a tech that liked in-line accessories. Unless it's made by the printer manufacturer, your tech will likely have next to no experience on the in-line parts if they need service. Also, if your bookletmaker is broken so is your printer, even if the printer is fine...

Yeah, a reboot of the Fiery and a full shutdown of the engine and power back up. Sometimes it will flush out whatever was making it hang up.

We just carry 11x17 Hammermill for the calibration. We have a C750 and an Imagepress 10000 and they have only ever needed the 11x17.
