Understanding the Canon ImagePress Line and Rough Price Points

Our initial plan was to run our machine into the ground too. Canon "officially" supports equipment for 7 years after it is discontinued. Beyond that it's up to their discretion if they want to offer parts or service. After your service contract ends, Canon Solutions will up the click cost by...

Understanding the Canon ImagePress Line and Rough Price Points

The problem is the service contract. No one wants to buy a machine without a service contract, and no company wants to give you a service contract on a machine you didn't buy from them. They'll do it, but the price per click is usually insulting. Why do you want a c700 as opposed to a c800 or...

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

For sure b/w machines are a lot simpler. 1 toner, 1 drum, 1 developer, smaller transfer belt, less 'stuff' to go wrong.... Océ (owned by Canon) makes some really nice, simple black and white machines. Perhaps that's worth a look? If you don't anticipate growth in your color volume, then maybe...

    Phase converter

I built a phase converter using a 10hp motor and run capacitors. Voltage was always different between the 3 legs, and balancing it was hard. Even when I balanced the 3 legs with nothing attached, adding a machine would impact the amount of capacitors I needed to keep the legs balanced. I used it...

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

They sell to end users through their "Canon Solutions America" division. I've done dollar buyouts and also FMV and honestly I don't see much difference between the two. The reason for my statement is that no matter what, you're beholden to the manufacturer/reseller for service. If you get a...

    how to punch a book?

I wouldn't try to punch the whole book together. There is going to be draw from the knife blade that cuts it and if you're cutting a hole in the middle of the book, there's nowhere for that paper to go as the knife blade gets thicker. Your cuts don't have to be 100% exact either. Just flex the...

    how to punch a book?

You saw the size of the hole he wants to cut, right? About 1.5" x 1.5". This is not your basic punching machine for binding books. He needs a die cutter like a kluge or a Heidelberg cylinder press.

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

You may want to be patient and wait a little bit on this. Canon introduced the new 8000 and 10000vp machines this week at Graph Expo and I think they're starting selling them in October or November. When those come out, Canon dealers are going to have a bunch of used 7010 and 7011vp machines...

The girls with the edward scisssorhands things were a little creepy.... I avoided them as much as possible.

Perhaps I did miss something then, because I just didn't see anything worth while. What kind of improvements are being made in software? Rips that rip faster?

    Anyone visiting GraphExpo?

I was there yesterday and I left feeling a little ho humm. It seems our industry has pretty well matured and new products are evolutionary, not revolutionary. So the new machine is 10 pages a minute faster. Does anyone really care? That iFoil stuff is cool, but isn't it like 350k for that...

    Cutting products to size.

The distance of cut marks from the edge is dependent on 2 things: 1) Your paper being actually cut to the exact size 2) The machine laying the image in the exact center of the page. Getting 1 of those 2 things to happen is great. Getting both of them.... that's a lot harder! Your first 2 cuts...

    Digital Capacity

For me, the question is 'what' are you putting on the paper? Text with an occasional picture on 28lb offset or 90% heavy coverage on 300gsm card stock? That will greatly influence how often you see service.

    4-Color Hourly Rates...

Canon C800 vs Xerox J75 vs KM 1070 (and Versant 80)

Versant 80 is the replacement for the J75 in the US. At 60k per month you are close to maxing out its monthly duty cycle. You should be looking at the Imagepress.

Envelope Printing - Oki, Xante, Ricoh?!

The Oki C931dn DOES NOT come with a fiery front end. You have to pay more to get that. 931 seems to have longer lasting consumables than the 911 I've got the straight shooter feeder and the 931dn and if I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't. I'm not sure there's anything better though. I...
