    Why do they reject sRGB???

RGB works soooooo much better to large/wide/grande/inkjet printers. Customers are rarely savvy enough to convert to CMYK with the proper profile and the resulting conversion always falls flat. If we get to convert, at least we know what works best for us whether in Photoshop or at the DFE. ICC...

    Grey Levels

Yay Gordos back ;-) I'm not in the Flexo universe but 4800 or 4096 seems high to me. Offset usually is ripped at 2000, 2400, or 2540 depending on the RIP manufacturer. The higher settings add considerable processing time for little value. That being said there is always a trade-off. We do some...

Do you pass your discounts on to the client?

The rebate is from a local big-box retailer. My suspicions were correct-it doesn't appear anyone is siding with my FIL on this. Soooooo do I show him this thread?

Do you pass your discounts on to the client?

Thanks for all the replies. The contractor paid for the supplies, but in my friend's mind HE ultimately paid for the roof so HE alone should get the rebate. Full disclosure, the friend is my Father-in-law and he's stubborn as a mule. To make matters worse, the contractor is a friend of the...

Do you pass your discounts on to the client?

To me, this is no different than quoting a print job and the client agrees to the price. Then, the printer gets a great deal on the stock and prints the job for a lower than the agreed-upon price. Is it then his duty to give the client the break they received on the stock or does the savings go...

Do you pass your discounts on to the client?

chriscozi I understand the owner/purchaser and contractor discount aspects of the issue. What feels right to you? Thanks

Do you pass your discounts on to the client?

This issue arose during a home improvement project but caused a larger discussion that would encompass all business owners as well. I have a "friend" who had a roofing job quoted at 20k. The contract was signed and the work proceeded as quoted, resulting in a beautiful new roof. It was later...

    Customer file submission

printingt we already use the term Graphic Technician-it doesn't seem to help :-/ We fancy "Prepress Engineer"... now that sounds expensive :-)

    Customer file submission

Oh my gawd petermif your post could literally be from 1999. What amazes me is this never changes! This has been such an informative thread-so appreciative for all the input.

    Customer file submission

lenasal you are an inspiration. Never stop learning! At 60 my best years are behind me. I thoroughly enjoy learning new techniques and it always surprises me when I work with a client who's never used a powerful tool, method, or productive plug-in. It seems we all fall into using the familiar or...

    Customer file submission

deaner my original posting was really to express my frustration with management's lack of ANY understanding of all things Prepress. They think that in the normal exchange between CSR, Prepress, and Client, we are somehow being taken advantage of if we don't receive perfect files. Their ideal...

    Customer file submission

Thanks for all the replies-PrintPlanet is the best! lenasal your experiences mirror my own. It appears there may be a consulting opportunity for someone like myself who is at the tail end of their career. There seems to be a never-ending supply of designers who know jack diddly about prepress...

    Customer file submission

Great feedback people-keep up the comments! As jwheeler mentioned, I am afraid we are going to lose business to a management mindset that thinks files must be perfect before we'll accept them.

    Customer file submission

Oh I get billing for it. We do as well. The gray area we get into is we are now altering their design and "changing their vision". The endless rounds of file submission for their approval creates a time crunch.

    Customer file submission

We have an ongoing debate amongst the Prepress team, management, and customers as to how files should be submitted to us. In most cases, we receive Adobe Illustrator files that need a fair amount of massaging to prepare for our process (we are an industrial screen printer). Prepress understands...

Best screen angle for one color gradients

Sorry-screen printing. I was always led to believe that a 45° angle would set up a mesh moire? Gordo, as you've explained in the past the closest thing Esko has to round is the Circular option. We are currently trying this dot shape. We had been using Elliptical for years but it just seems to be...

Best screen angle for one color gradients

Do you have a favorite screen angle for one color gradients or is it artwork specific? In your opinion what affects the quality of the gradient more, the lpi, mesh count, or angle? 7.5? 22.5? 52.5 or 82.5? Does angle even matter with a one-color gradient? What about dot shape? Elliptical...

Any screen printing experts out there?

We set up our tests with the gradient rotated all differently-it didn't matter. Washed out screen looks good as well.
