    offline booklet maker

As above…I have a dbm150 with face trimmer. I think it’s a nearly perfect machine for our use, but I would not have considered buying this machine without a face trimmer. I have zero interest in face trimming on our guillotine…tedious, not very safe, not very accurate?

Is there a way to fake a bleed?

Undersizing it after printing…but I’d just cut my losses and reprint it properly.

    Realistic Volume Expectations - v900

Yeah this is why I always ask for the customer expectations document when looking at a machine. What they are saying, is that if you’re outside the optimum range it can do it, but it will be down a lot if you consistently do that. If you have the volume you would be overall better served by...

    Ricoh Pro C7500 vs C7200X

I’m sure it varies by location but I always prefer to go direct for service. The dealers here give serious used car salesmen greaseball vibes and I am not confident their techs are used to servicing the production level equipment. I did recently have a little registration wonkiness and it...

    New Click Rates - 2025

Eh no. On a new machine in the US, I’m sure no commercial printer is paying $.06 on color. Our current machine (locked for term) is half that, and we just got another machine a couple months ago for even less. I’d ask the sales rep the next time they show up uninvited if the reason they are...

    Toy? or worth considering?

No experience with the cheap machines you can find these days but doesn’t give me a lot of confidence. I feel like for that much money or less you could probably find a second hand professional model of sorts, or someone in town that will do short runs (my old job did this all the time for...

    Nuvera License Frustration

A tale as old as time, with Xerox at least I remember this “feature” even on the docutech 6180s we had. The original docutech 135s did not have this, iirc. But never really a problem as long as you had a contract on it.

2 - Ricohs That Will Not Hold Back UP

I clean the scanner part on the 7210 before running auto reg. Sometimes I’ve seen anomalies that can be resolved with deleting and creating a new paper profile. You can also try printing halftone floods and see if there is anything might be dragging on one side or the other.

    Quite Imposing: De-Imposing a booklet?

I’ve never made Quite work like this either. In the situation I need to do this I would drop each page into Indesign as spreads and export the whole document as pages from there. A little bit Tedious to set up the first time for a bigger book but just save the file and use it again + relink...

    Printing ultra thin lines

The registration of the color separations is a function of your printer. Not sure what the tolerances are on that model, but when I have color separation issues that’s an adjustment, part replacement, and or service call.

    4 x 6in booklet maker

Or a LESS expensive machine, if the machine you have is what I think it is. I hear of nothing but problems with Plock, and they were more than 3x as expensive as the Duplo we bought. Just yesterday our Ricoh tech was in here and the service manager showed up, and they were both bitching about...

    4 x 6in booklet maker

Our duplo dbm 150 says it will do 4.73”wide by 8.27” long sheet size, and will face trim up to .79”. So I think your book should be possible.

    scanner for prepress artwork

Really depends on your exact requirements and use case, but for me I haven’t used a flatbed scanner of any type in over 5 years. In the increasingly rare situation I might have a hard copy original that needs duplication or tracing, I haven’t received any job that I couldn’t pull off using my...

Ricoh 9500 Long Drawer Skew Problem

Paper weight? Is this the top (belt fed) banner attachment, not an enclosed air fed drawer? I have on our 7210 the air fed combo drawer that goes to 27” or so, and it’s not perfect but pretty good using 100# silk cover, certainly close enough for that application (usually large tri folds). I...

    How Many Tries??

Some customers get it, most don’t. New customer - try to educate them and see if they are malleable. Old customer that has demonstrated general file illiteracy…just fix it and bill them. As you say, it often takes more time to explain + back and forth, to even try to get something fixed…than...

KM AccurioPress C4070 or Ricoh ProC5300S or Canon Imagepress v700 or Fujifilm ApeosPro C650

I prefer a lease, after 4-5 years of solid use most digital printers are ready to be retired anyway, and they won’t be worth anything secondhand. I used to be somewhere that preferred the opposite approach, and would just fight equipment and service all day long, and pay greatly higher click...

Swapping out year old KM7090 for Ricoh 7500

I agree with all this about the sd513, except we went with the duplo dbm 150 which is more flexible book size options than the plock, and in my experience a more durable brand, and i believe less expensive. We went with hand feeding instead of the feeders…honestly this is completely fine for...
