    Variable Mapping Applications

I'm curious if anyone is using a variable mapping application or service? If so, what's good about it, what's not so good? What are the relative costs? I saw the XMPie announcement already and would like to know what else is out there that works. Thanks.

    XMPie Error Handling?

How does XMPie deal with data errors? Does it have to merge an entire job before it can identify errors? Does the system alert a user to errors prior to printing? How are things like text overflow dealt with? Disclaimer, I'm associated with Jet Letter. Thanks

Print Shop Mail & Ricoh C900

Paula, I think you may be confusing RIP speed with merge speed. Any VDP application needs to first merge all records before they can be ripped. Objectif Lune products have never been known for being overly speedy in the merge department. Certainly you can optimize the data stream sent to the...

a b dick 385 converted to uv coater

There was a company in Texas that was converting AB Dicks to run UV coating. I understand that they are now out of business. They used the feeder section of the press and stripped out most of the rollers to apply coating to the sheet. The sheet then dropped onto a conveyor which passed under...

    Riso and VDP/Transpromo

I can't provide any direct feedback on the Riso although I know they have many installations running transactional work. As for VDP software Jet Letter's PSL has for years been a strong affordable provider of VDP software for transactional/transpromo work. Their new PSL PageBuilder PRO...

Maximum output file size - XMPie

By using a plug in VDP application you're always going to have to deal with the limitations of the application its plugged into. Acrobat and InDesign are made to deliver static documents. While creating VDP output is possible you are eventually going to run into a wall. A stand alone VDP...

    Riso Inkjet

You certainly can't beat the pricing on Riso's inkjet systems. Inkjet does offer some advantages over toner as well. Envelopes for one.

    Km c8000

KM's own RIP? I almost fell over laughing when I heard that last week. The Emperon controller can't be called a RIP by any stretch of the imagination. Not sure what they are connecting to the 8000 though.

    KM 1200 Bizhub Pro

If you want a 1050 really cheap talk to one the former KM dealers. Many still have inventory they'd love to dump before they have to write it off.

    Km c8000

My understanding is that the Creo will not be offered on the C8000 at introduction. I'm not sure what's up with Creo these days. They've had so many layoffs their channel support in the US is really hurting.

    Km c8000

I sat through a recent presentation by a KM SVP who stated that the street price of the C8000 in the US would be in the $115-135K range fully configured. He made no mention of the click charges. The 8000 will be shown at GraphExpo and first deliveries can be expected October.

    KM 1200 Bizhub Pro

The 1050 was a real workhorse. The 1200 is complete redesign with better imaging and longer duty cycle. The issue with the 1050 was not the engine itself but in the finishing components. The later released machines were an improvement over the early release units however. I don't know about the...

    Can someone explain DPI?

Printability is about more than DPI and bit depth. The overall look and feel of the imaging. How well does it handle different substrates? Your personal tastes or preferences or that of your customer's matter as much or more. At the end of the day can your engine produce salable product?

    Km 1051

MSRP is meaningless, nobody pays retail. That being said, $55k would be about right depending how the 1051 is configured. If the price is $55k for just the imaging unit that would be extremely high in the US.
