Hi all, interesting stuff here, does anyone know why roller life is so bad on a DI? The only reason i can guess is that the lack of alcohol or fount is causing them to dry out and shrink prematurely, reasonable idea or not? Ours seem to last about 1 year then rapidly shrink.

Hi, we cant actually measure the plate as it needs special equipment. We can get the press to a linear state and this is part of the setup procedure so it 'can' do 5% = 5% for at least that set of plates. From then on the only readings we can get are from the finished jobs which should reflect...

Sorry, my fault, after checking through my reams of notes here it turns out we are running to +/-0.05 which i feel is pretty tight. Yes 0.1d is pretty slack. The press default setting is 0.1d variation. Dave

Yes, it just seems to vary all the time. We can usually nail the SID's to within +/- 0.1d or better but still the TVI varies, i have been told that our control of SID is very tight, it does give the operator a headache sometimes! Maybe technology and analysis is outstripping offset printing's...

Yes, we have tracked the temps and while they do vary, plate and blanket cylinders especially, the TVI will change on a fresh start up, its like every single job is slightly different. I'm pretty confident that our operator won't bother doing anything more than absolutely neccessary :) Dave

Yes we have done that. We used Bodoni Press-Sign for curve creation. It works but not quite, the colours are a bit flat and lifeless, we have to punch the yellow and black to give the pictures more bounce and a closer match to the proof. We can get close but not close enough. I must add that...

The solids look good through a loupe, we are running Toyo MZ Aqualess Eco in K-C-M-Y order as that is standard for this press. We sometimes get a bit of yellow contamination but is very job dependant. Dave

When you say the C&M need to be altered, please explain. These are solid density patches so the curves have absolutely no effect. Do you mean use colour management to make composite solids? Dave

HI, the RIP was set for the "actual press" linearisation curve, no colour control, "intended press" was BVD/Fogra i believe. ICC control was turned off. Thanks Dave

Hmm, thanks for that but it sounds very expensive and re-inventing the wheel when we already have 99% of this system in place just not configured correctly. I will contact them anyway. Dave
