    Proofing question

It's been a year and a half since I've used Fiery XF with Xitron Sierra but I loved it. From what I remember, Sierra would just create a file that got dropped into an EFI hot folder. Was pretty straight forward. IMO, the Fiery XF software itself was very robust. We used it to profile our Epson...

In your Convert Colors dialog box, try selecting "Preserve Black" under the Convert Options.

Tim-Ellis, What application are you working in/with?

UV printing on wood in southern Ontario??

I used to run a Mimaki flatbed that could print on hardwood. It couldn't be any thicker than 2'' though.

    Epson 7900 issue

Is it by chance trying to do a calibration? Not a color calibration, but another calibration of some sort. I had an Epson that was traveling the whole length of track side to side, regardless of paper size, because it was doing a calibration - and it was after a paper jam. I kept stopping the...

    Spot Color matching through Fiery

As deck said, you need to make sure you have the right media selected via the Properties button in the "Resource" tab. It could be defaulting to Plain when you're altering the CMYK values for Reflex in the PANTONE Color Library but instead you're printing on Gloss media. Changes you make to the...

HELP need to "trap" a file after converting all to a black (add a stroke)

I know you're looking for a preflight action but is there not an option in ONYX that will allow you to "Shrink" the white. I have a Mimaki flatbed with white ink, and Rasterlink, which drives the printer, has such an option.

    Rasterlink6

I second what Craig said. If saving the file out as a pdf fixed your sporadic jagged edges, then I think all you need to do is adjust your pdf output options. Did you use one of the supplied preset pdf options?

I also run a JFX200 with Rasterlink 6. I've never seen what you're talking about but have you tried sending a pdf instead of an eps?

A few recent threads have gotten me thinking...

Slammer, just so happens that one of our plate reps was in yesterday and I bounced the linear curve question off on him and he said he's never seen a D.O.P (Develop On Press) plate that output linear without a curve. Said that the closest he's seen is like a 52% in the 50% patch and that was...

Slammer, I hate to assume anything, but if you know for sure your CTP is linear without a curve I would be inclined to agree that the processless plate would also be. My CTP device isn't. I'm surprised yours is. I was always told that it's just inherent of these devices. We've had two different...

I hear what you're saying Prepper but our shop's pressroom has a bad habit of assuming it's the plate first and foremost when something isn't matching to our certified proof. I at least like to know what I'm giving the pressroom, dot percentage wise that is. Our processor plates where...

I don't think it would be too much to ask of your plate rep to have them come in and figure it out for you - if they want you to keep using their plate. I wouldn't use a plate that I couldn't read.

Can't you wipe the plate scale with fountain solution before developing it on press? Which processor less plate are you using? I know some have more latent images than others. Fuji's has the lightest latent image, then Kodak, Agfa/Heidelberg and we just tested Presstek's Gem plate and it's...

I'm with Joe. That's the whole idea OF the plate curve - it makes it linear. Without a plate curve, our platesetter produces a 44% dot in the 50% area when using positive plates and it produces a 56% dot in the 50% area with a negative plate (process less).

What would be your choice of flatbed

I run a Mimaki JFX200 flatbed and am very happy with it. It's the 4'x8' model but there is also a JFX500 that has a 5'x10' bed and is faster than the JFX200.

    There’s a New QuarkXPress

The last I remember about Quark, which was Quark 8 and I haven't used it in years, was that you could create transparency in the application but it didn't always export out properly to a pdf. I would like to think that they have addressed that issue. I will say the video I just watched was very...

    Rip Suggestions

I've been using EFI XF for almost two years now and I'd hate to think where I'd be without it. We color manage an Epson 9900 that we only run two substrates through, but between our Mimaki Roll and Mimaki Flatbed printer, we've profiled well over 30 different substrates. And as NathanD said, it...
