Spot UV Coating on the Aqeuous Tower - can it register?

Yes,we have double transfers. We use just a manilla type press packing,My 2nd man packs them,so off hand I forget to what? I believe .080 or .082. We usually tension them by hand. We have a "standard" of 10 Ft. Lbs.,but this is such a touchy tension that we usually do it by feel. Scientific? NO...

Spot UV Coating on the Aqeuous Tower - can it register?

I can't say we run it alot, but maybe every month or so. I did run into this a few months ago when running a spot raised UV coating with glitter in it.We just could not get it to lay smooth,it seemed to either break up,or fill in the reversed out areas. We changed to a smaller cell anilox...

Spot UV Coating on the Aqeuous Tower - can it register?

Yes. We do this also, buy usually on jobs that fit is not critical. Like cutting the glue flap areas out on a pocket folder for example. Some of the guys around my shop are actually pretty good at this! They can cut a blanket that you would think was a cyrel. The down side is it is very time...

Spot UV Coating on the Aqeuous Tower - can it register?

I spot UV coat inline a few times a week using cyrels,on a 8/c 105 Heidelberg. I run the press,so I can't offer much in the way of distortion %'s,that is done in prepress. I can tell you that the fit/print length can be manipulated by the amount of applicator pressure and cylinder squeeze. If...

Spot gloss effect similiar to UV with conventional press

How high of a gloss level are you looking for? Is the spot image supposed to be actually glossy when you are done,or are you just looking for contrast between the varnished and unvarnished areas? If you have aqueous coated uncoated stock before, you know it has a tendency to want to curl, even on...

    UV inks for synthetic substrates

We run Toyo UV inks. I think their plastic set works very good. I don't know what type of press your running, but if you have chilled rollers in the ink train, try upping the temp. for better flow.;) Go too warm and you'll have toning problems though.

    Hickeys

Good advice so far. Hickies or picking? First you HAVE to determine the source of the hickie. As said above, ink, paper, press contamination. If you are picking off of the paper as you think, here are a few ideas I use. Make sure you are not running excessive pressure. I have found that on cheaper...

    What are you thankful for?

Even though we are kind of slow at work right now I'm glad I have a job at all, some people are out of work alltogether. I'm greatful for my church and the school that they provide for my kids, some places in this world people are not allowed to worship. I'm greatful for my wife and children,I...

    Tresu modular coating unit

DUH,my mistake,I just figured out that your coater is one that is used on a regular printing unit. Yes,pics would help.I assume that no after market airknife is before the transfer that is marking?

    Tresu modular coating unit

Can the cylinder be removed? Is it a cylinder with grippers,or just a drum? We always run with no drum after our coaters. We have discs we can put in gutter areas, but I can't remember the last time I've seen one used. This is on Speedmasters,CD's,XL's ect. Sorry for my ignorance, but I've never...

    Delivery Chain Lube Cycles

I don't know offhand about the adjustment, but the speedmaster I used to run pumped a fair amout of grease,up to the point where it would drip off the chains up in the delivery. The only thing I could think of offhand is are you using the correct lube? The monkey snot grease that we use is very...

    Conventional Dampening Covers

Though it's been about 15 years since I've ran a press with covered rollers, I also used "Red 1" most of the time. We also had covers with a tight nap, made of a nylon type material, colored white (I can't remember the name),though we did'nt run that too often. As I remember the Reds were a...

    movement during run

Albert,in your post #6 you wrote that you get the doubling while printing the K alone. Is this with any other units on impression? This should help at least narrow down the problem. For example,if you had a bad transfer gripper between the 2nd and 3rd unit, the black would double, but not until...

Any UV pressmen out there? Help!

I never claimed to be a print god,but we are having problems on all 3 shifts. Easy is boring, and makes for a long shift IMO. Help? Sure, that's why I started this thread. Just trying to figure out what issues are "normal" and which are not. Seems like some issues are just common to UV...

    interesting issue with impression

Albert,I know the problem seems to have gone away, but I talked to our mechanic this AM before I left work, first time I've seen him since he got back. He pretty much said what our Heidelberg mechanic told me. Most likely a solenoid going bad,or the piston leaking. But he did say to check a few...

Any UV pressmen out there? Help!

All I know is that they are made by Phoenix, and are from Germany. We actually get them through Toyo ink somehow. When they wear,we send them back to be reconditioned. I'm pretty much out of the loop on alot of things by working 3rd shift,so I don't know that much about them. I don't know where...

    Soft touch coating.

A few other "shot in the dark" thoughts. If running out of a bucket,is the coating getting alot of air bubbles in it? This has happened a few times to me while running speciality type coatings from a bucket, because our pump, lines, chamber hold about 4 gallons, leaving only 1 gal. in the bucket,so...

Any UV pressmen out there? Help!

Well after working 2nd shift the last 2 weeks (I usually work 3rd),I got to talk to alot of management that I usually don't get to see. I found out that our older UV press did run EPDM rollers when it first came in,and that they only lasted 2 1/2 weeks! THAT is why management is so paranoid of...
