    Clicking Balwin

We have a Baldwin chiller on our SM52. It's has always made an occasional clicking sound in the area near the pump motor but now it is doing it continuously. Any idea what it is and what is about to happen? The unit is about 5 years old so I can't believe the motor is going to crap out but I'd...

    Ryobi 3302 Help Needed!

You are using the right technique, push down on lever and turn knob. It might be that the blanket cylinder is corroded and stuck. Try spraying some penetrating lube in the outer groove where the cylinder meets the gear. I've had this happen before if the cylinders haven't been moved for awhile.

slinging ink on barriers and waterpans inking up

Are you running the dampener integrated? I haven't found a process ink that doesn't emulsify and build up at any speed on these presses. When I first got my SM I tried running that way because the book says it's better, but was never able to. Not to hijack your thread but if you are running...

    gas ghosting

In reply to your question regarding Alcohol vs. sub, I don't believe you will see any difference. I have a similar project I do a few times a year and had the gas ghost issue running alcohol. I run the process color then wash up and put the spot and varnish down on the same side ASAP and haven't...

    Need Some Expert Feedback

With your budget in mind I'd opt for a 3302 / poly set-up. The caveat' here is that you refocus your efforts on profitable 2 color work from your current customers i.e. envelopes, letterheads, NCR forms and send your 4 color jobs out to one of the hundred wholesale printers to lose their money...

    SM 52 Back Cylinder Cleaning

Dana, thanks for the mind jog! I tried a sample of the Turbo Clean a few years ago and it worked great, but I never reordered it. I'll have to get some in again.

    SM 52 Back Cylinder Cleaning

I have the same press configuration but no impression cylinder washers. Those perfect jackets are a pain to keep clean but it's the technology that allows Heidelberg's to perfect coated sheets. I've run into the same issue with linting even washing by hand. I would try the better cloths as even...

    ISO Process Curve Set

Hello to all. I am getting ready to do a new calibration for our SM52 using Heidelberg Prinect workflow and calibration manager. The software comes with ISO 12647-2 (paper1+2) available as a reference process curve set. Wondering if this is the defacto standard to strive for or is there an...

    Roller Suggestions

Jeremy, I've run 3302's for 15+ years they are a nice machine to learn how to print on. Those rollers aren't worth re-covering, the syntac or litho roll products are the best value and will do a great job for you. I just replaced all the ink rollers on 1 unit with syntac for $550.00 @ Printers...

    Registration or doopid pressmen?

I remember way back in the day when we would take a piece of final film and put it in the fridge to get it to shrink and our Cromalin proof to fit. Next time, make a new set of plates and tell the pressman to go stand outside with them and lock the door:)

    Considering a 29 - any advice appreciated

If you are looking at a 14 X 20 it would be good to consider a perfector. Versatility is great, this morning I ran 2 rush 4 color jobs and am now plowing through a 2 color book. When perfecting single or 2 color work speeds are the same as a 1/2 size. Heidelbergs perfect coated stocks great...

If you guys are buying Russell-Webb Grade 2.0 V vanishing powder you sure are lucky! I would like to try this product on my 5 color SM buy can't seem to find a way to buy it. Flint says call Day and Day says they don't know what it is, even though it's on their web-site. The other problem is...
