    True Violet

Thanks! Well, darkness/brightness can be tuned, of course. So those pigments actually reflect in that range? But no existing inks, like in a Pantone collection?

    True Violet

Is there a spot ink that reproduces the true violet color? Not a purple (that's a mix of blue and red) but the true violet spectral wavelength as in the rainbow and outside the RGB (and, obviously, also CMYK) gamut?

    Matte-Gloss Strikethrough

Thanks! I was just afraid I may have missed something in my specification.

    Matte-Gloss Strikethrough

I have a question about the matte-gloss strikethrough technique, where spot matte is followed by flood gloss, so that the gloss is neutralized over the matte areas. Basically, I want to know whether a special combination of matte and gloss coatings should be used, or if it works in general.

    Iriodin

Thanks! I do know that there are many different kinds of Iriodin, which is why I mentioned that I actually need a pearlescent one. Probably, Iriodin 123 (Bright Lustre Satin) or whichever one has the brightest and smoothest lustre (no glitter, no interference, etc.) of white or silvery color. Leo

    Iriodin

Hi. Could you please suggest a good source of Iriodin (a pearlescent ink)? My printer in India would prefer me procuring the necessary amount (very small, about 2 kg). Leo

    Grayscale Color Corrections

Thanks again. I wonder if converting to the US Sheetfed Coated v2 would help, if the said US Sheetfed Coated v2 is set as the grayscale profile (otherwise, the conversion would turn the image into a 4-color one). I've heard it was possible to make non-grayscale profiles available in the...

    Grayscale Color Corrections

Thank you. Yes, I understand that InDesign is showing how the images would look in print. But my question is what to do with it, because my illustrator (the artist) drew the pictures without a correction for that. Should I ask him to make the images somewhat darker--and how much darker? Or...

    Grayscale Color Corrections

Hi, everyone. I've got some grayscale images from my illustrator. They are great, with many nice shadows (as called for by the subject). But when placed in InDesign, in the overprint mode, they look much lighter, hardly any shadows. I gather, this must be how they would look in print if only...

    Anyone using Pantone GOE?

True enough. But, in the perception of people like me, this fits the usual model of phasing out an older system while retaining backward compatibility for a while. And if both provide comparable functionality, the most natural conclusion is to go for the new system. Now, this may be wrong in...

    Strike-Through

So, would that ruin or improve the legibility of type? Leo

    Anyone using Pantone GOE?

Interesting. I have already included a GOE color in my quote requests. I think you may see more customers asking for GOE colors as time goes on, from the crowd of those who, like me, have never worked with the pre-GOE system before coming into the field and so have no habits to overcome. And...

Not sure what you mean. I'm trying to use printindustry.com to obtain multiple quotes. Leo

    Halftones

The standard quote request forms ask for the number of halftones. Do I count only photos and art, or also such things as gray type and InDesign gradients? Leo

    Hardcover Size

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I actually have a preference for a particular paper stock for text and dust jacket (due to a thematic resonance with the book's subject matter), though not for endpapers and cover. But the artist doesn't have to illustrate the spine. :) Leo...
