Ideal PDF settings? Does anyone know?

One other thing. Know what type of press the job will be printed on. The default settings are for US Web. If the job is printing on a sheetfed press, and you leave the color profile set to web you will have jobs where the proofs are hard to match on press.

    Hickies

Do all of the above plus reduce the tack of your ink and run the press as fast as it will handle the paper. This causes an easier release from the blankets and the paper tends to not pick as much. Are your hickeys coming from the plate or the blanket? If your running uncoated stock try running a...

    Ink build up metering rollers

Sounds like chrome rollers are desensitized. Use chrome roller cleaner or mix a 50/50 solution of water and distilled white vinegar and wash up with all rollers engaged. You don't want to do this every day; or even every week, but when you're having this type of problem it usually works. Lenny R.

InDesign Error- You may not have permission....

I've found that it has to do with InDesign's "Background Task" function. Long after the PDF is complete indesign is still running a background task on it.

Printing Gold, that comes out Green?

I print a lot of cmyk golds and I can't imagine using C30. Way too much cyan. Printing cmyk metallics is not a science, its an art. Even the builds in a pantone swatch library don't print the same as they look on screen. Magenta is usually too low and cyan is usually too high. Get rid of some...

gumming issue gumming issue I had the same problem and it turned out the the drying unit on the plate processor wasn't working well enough to dry the plates properly and the marks were coming from the feed rollers. Lenny R.

Need some help ink/water in balance or something

Lenny R. Lenny R. This type of stuff is happening more and more due to the state of the paper industry. Sometimes it's because the surface fibers of the sheet are so loose that they pick of on to your blankest, or the ink absorbs so fast and so deep into the sheet that the dots get screwed...

    color matching problem

Lenny R. Lenny R. When this happens on my press it's usually because the customer's proof was printed with the wrong profile set, or they are trying to match a pantone color that is outside of the cmyk color gamut. If they are that concerned about matching they're proof you need to evaluate...

    Ink Build-up on Chrome Dampeners

Ink buildup on dampners Ink buildup on dampners Try a 50/50 concentration of white vinegar and water, at wash up. This works especially good with the problem you get on Komoris. The acid in the vinegar helps to clean and desensitize chrome and copper rollers

32 page signature color/black and white

32 page signature 32 page signature I doubt that you're really printing a 32 page signature, unless it's a very small book or very large press. My guess is that you're printing a 32 page booklet. On my press we'd print 4 8-page signatures. Usually (but by no means only) if only one signature...

Outsourcing print jobs to other countries, thoughts???

While I understand your perspective as an individual who is working under their own personal circumstances, it still has the smell of hypocrisy to it. Why ask your original question if you already have the answer? If it's cheaper overseas then buy it overseas. What answer were you looking for...

light papers light papers Setting of the feedboard brushes, rollers and vacuum is critical. As light a touch as you can get. This will help eliminate wrinkling. Outsourcing print jobs to other countries, thoughts???

Us printers work too much already. By all means send it all overseas, so we won't have to work at all. Another plus is that the pressmen are probably making 5 or 6 dollars a day. If we send enough printing jobs overseas pretty soon we'll be able to make 5 or 6 dollars a day too! After the job is...

Sucker feet marks on poly plates...

Back in the olden days we used to put a single layer of cheese cloth over the suckers (with rubber bands). It would keep the suckers from disturbing the fibers in the paper. It also worked when you were going through the press more then once, to keep any powder buildup marking from the suckers...
