Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

Usually when I convert to outlines, I keep all outlined text as a separate object that is grouped. So seperate trapping/overprinting hasn't or shouldn't have been an issue, yea? Yep, I know. Although text is a little more complex than just a traditional vector. I see what you mean. So, if...

Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

Good explanation of another possible issue. Out of curiosity (because I might learn from it), and not to digress the conversation - but from the print end, why would you suggest not vectorizing fonts? I've seen these explanations: To give an option to edit incoming print materials Small...

huh. Good to know. :} Thank you.

Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

Fair enough. There are certainly situations with multiple page printing where that would be the last thing you'd want to consider. I've had book-style printing jobs where symbols needed weren't supported by what we had available to our printers/systems and kept printing wrong. Outlining fixes...

    Edit Image in PDFs

It depends on how the original file that became a pdf was made, really. There are cases where the source is the problem, it can be flattened/set to other settings etc. and then still be saved as a pdf file-type. Which can be a pita for editing depending. A good example of an evil of the world...

    Why use CYMK?

I think he covered that with the concept of misregistration. :} Can you imagine how illegible small type would be?

    Why use CYMK?

    I was just covering the basic principle of 'reflective' vs 'produced light'. Because it seemed the mix-up was happening with the concept of using 'red green blue' ink as opposed to 'cyan magenta yellow black' ink. I understand this. ;}

Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

This is a brilliant idea. ;} It still doesn't account for some of the font/printer issues I've seen, but it is the most comprehensive solution I've heard of.

Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

I worked for newspapers and with prepress long enough to know what a pain it can be when we have to make something work on a daily basis to run across that one outlined ad. I also know I very rarely had to correct those ads compared to the others. I know that the other ads I had to correct...

    Introduce yourself!

Hi David! My name is Cassandra, and I am a recovering PC addict...(yes, I said PC, not pcp - and I am replying to David's post on page one of this thread.) Lol actually, I love both PC's and Macs, and I'm cool with that. I've been a designer in the field for the last 10 years. I've been...

Illustrator AI file type issues when placed to Indesign

It may not always be space-efficient...however, fonts should ALWAYS, ALWAYS be outlined before the file is sent to another computer. As a designer I always save one working copy version (without outlined fonts) for myself, so I can easily make edits... Then ALWAYS outline fonts and save that...

    Why use CYMK?

I think Erik, Ox and a few others stated it the simplest. I also think 'additive and subtractive' can be confusing for some. As are some of the conversations about printing in Red/Green/Blue inks. And in this case, it's because you /can't/ print in RGB as a light spectrum. Even printers that...

problem with .eps/.ai file used in indesign

There are a few options you may want to look at - all involving object styles if you need to do a whole lot of frames at once. The first option is 'Frame Fitting Options' under 'Object Styles'. Basically, select your box, go to object styles and create a new style, then scroll down to 'frame...

problem with .eps/.ai file used in indesign

The simplest way to fix this problem is place the photo in InDesign and don't even mess with the other programs. Then duplicate this photo (ctrl+c and then ctrl+p, OR ctrl+alt while dragging with your mouse arrow). Then flip the duplicate (rotate it 180deg) then go to 'object' 'effects'...
