    Multiple RIPs within workflow

Magnus, sounds like you have a very similar setup to us. I'm curious if you apply a color profile to the wide-format & small-format digital files you sent back? I currently apply a gracol 2006 profile to help us match the offset better. I'm not sure if this is the best idea honestly, but it...

    Multiple RIPs within workflow

I agree. I need to double-check the other RIP settings. But I'm pretty sure I had as many refine / color settings turned off as I could so they would function more like a passthrough.

    Multiple RIPs within workflow

The only reason I need to use the other rips is because they drive their respective machines directly which Prinergy can't do unfortunately. I have as many actual refine settings turned off as I can in the other RIPs. And yes, those other RIPs have special imposition software for each...

    Softproofing Before OR After Ripping

Totally with you on this. And this is how I've always been taught. Every print company I've worked at has had the same issue with some CSRs & Sales being at odds with Prepress and not willing to learn the process. We were even using InSite but despite pushing to use it, couldn't get everyone...

    Multiple RIPs within workflow

Hey Everyone, I'm sure this topic has been approached in the past and I'm curious if there's any new information/feelings on best practices/workflows for shops that handle multiple types of printing. Our shop does Offset, Wide Format, and Small Format Digital printing. We currently use...

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

Thanks bbertolani, We do commercial, large format, digital, packaging & web2print. So a little bit of everything. So far, it looks like every system has 1 or 2 specialties and can be customized to handle other things. I would say most of our work is either Commercial or Wideformat so those...

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

Thanks Akalaray. I'm mainly thinking in terms of some of the file setup requirements needed for wide format such as being able to break a single piece of art apart in order to print on several boards, or being able to add specialized marks for grommets or router cutting. We use a Agfa's...

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

From what I can tell, Switch isn't a full workflow replacement but more of an addin for automation. Is that correct?

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

Thanks for the suggestion Akalaray. Does the Heidelberg software have any solution for wide format? I don't see any mention of it from their website. We're trying to find something that can cover everything.

    Softproofing Before OR After Ripping

Thank you for this! I will take a look. The idea of the proof PDF being a raster PDF is interesting. I haven't heard of doing this before.... I interpret this to mean that everything in the document is rasterized. Or does it simply speak to the changes that happen to the file once its gone...

    Softproofing Before OR After Ripping

    Exactly! My thoughts as well.

    Softproofing Before OR After Ripping

Right. We have a Versafire with its own rip as well as some Agfa machines with their own rips as well. I've been told that most rips can be configured to simply be a passthrough that gets the file to the machine. I'm hoping that I can set ours up this way at some point so that the only rip...

    Softproofing Before OR After Ripping

Someone I spoke with recently mentioned that they softproof files BEFORE they are Ripped. I've always heard that soft proofing should always be done AFTER Ripping in case the rip creates an issue with the file. What are your thoughts? What's your workflow for softproofing?

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

We're running version 8.1. Prinergy is the only system I've ever used. I have some experience with Esko products via ArtiosCAD but not any of their prepress software. Apogee does provide some inciting file fixing capabilities as well as automation capabilities without having to purchase a...

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

That's an interesting thought abc, thanks for the input. We are looking for something that is a total workflow replacement as opposed to just one piece of the puzzle. We're trying to find a solution that bridges our wide-format, with our digital & offset and brings them together into one system.

Thinking of moving to a New Workflow and Need Input

Our Kodak Prinergy server is due for an upgrade but we've given it a pause to consider other workflows going forward. We're trying to find a good solution to handle the mix of equipment we have as well as be able to handle 2 locations that are a few miles apart. Currently we don't have both...

    Esko or Kodak?

So do you use Preps for your commercial work or the Esko alternative? How do you mean "super powerful"? What exactly does it do that you feel like it excels at over Prinergy & Pandora?
  18. C

    Esko or Kodak?

How do you mean? I know from using ArtiosCAD that every little part of that program is sectioned off into paid licenses. Is that what you're referring to?

    Esko or Kodak?

Interesting. Does esko not have an imposition software that can handle book work? I can't find anything mentioned it on their website.

    Esko or Kodak?

Yeah that is what I'm figuring as well. But judging from Esko's website, they don't handle conventional offset work at all. I couldn't find anything about it. Looks like the closest they get is with digital pressses.
