ACT, Inc. has an opening for a Buyer to initiate and coordinate the procurement of commercially printed material and their distribution, assigned technology items and other materials and services for ACT’s corporate infrastructure as assigned. ACT is a not-for-profit, internationally recognized leader in assessment and information products headquartered in Iowa City. Typical work related activities include:
** Prepare detailed technical specifications for purchasing printed materials and related services.
** Maintain current-state knowledge of graphics-related technology and terminology.
** Schedule and monitor assigned projects, coordinate with Senior Print Buyer as applicable.
** Coordinate the procurement of designated technology items with Senior Technology Buyers and Desktop Support department as assigned by Senior Technology Buyer(s).
** Maintain a cost-effective purchasing program by identifying prospective vendors, obtaining bids, negotiate pricing and awarding contracts.
** Review all finished products and services for quality control.
** Serve as a liaison between ACT personnel and vendors in resolving project conflicts.
** Maintain shared files regarding suppliers’ capabilities, equipment and performance.
** Communicate effectively and efficiently with other staff members and with ACT suppliers.
** Maintain a thorough knowledge of the printing industry for ACT.
** Develop a working knowledge of technology as applied by ACT.
** Develop a working knowledge of ACT’s building, grounds and facilities workflow and procurement requirements.
** Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of ACT’s procurement workflow and related Oracle applications.
** Participate as a team member of the Purchasing unit to advance corporate standards, plan and implement projects, share knowledge, and in general achieve the objectives of the unit.
** Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information.
** Schedule proof and printed sample reviews with ACT personnel.
** Review and approve all invoices.
** Maintain file of all printed samples.
** Record all outgoing and incoming artwork and electronic files.
** Regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in making work-related decisions.
** Adhere to ACT Corporate Internal Control and Purchasing Policies.
** Maintain quality and security control on all assigned projects.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 4 years of related experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment criminal background check as a condition of employment. Competitive starting salary and excellent benefits including 15 days paid vacation, 6% contribution plus an additional 3% match to 403B retirement, tuition reimbursement plan, 11 paid holidays, health, dental, vision and life insurance.
