Debris on hp z3100 prints

Hello all,

I have a brand new hp z3100 here that is producing prints with occasional debris on them. The debris appears to be small rectangular pieces of paper, ranging from 1x1 mm to 2x3 mm. The debris appears to be landing on the paper before reaching the printhead, as the ink is on top of the debris. When I rub/scratch the debris off the print, there is just bare paper beneath. Some debris pieces are more stubborn and don't come off at all with light rubbing.

The issue appeared pretty much right out of the box on its first roll of paper. I have since switched to another roll, but the issue persists. I encounter one of these debris pieces on average once per 2 feet of paper drawn from the roll.

I looked under the cover and found one loose piece of this debris laying inside. I don't know its source, and wonder if its from the printer's orginal packing materials.

Has anyone ever encountered something similar on this printer, other hp z-series printers (z2100, z3200, z6100...), or on any inkjet printer for that matter?

Thanks and regards,
KDJ

We also use a HP Z3100 never come across your problem - are you sure it is not just the paper?
If the roll does not have torn edges the machine does not have anywhere the paper could come from. Unless of course, when you unpacked it you did not take out all the packaging tapes etc....

Get a roll from a reputable source and then complain if the roll is not clean.

Hi Winness,

First roll was direct from hp. Second roll from an hp supplier. The debris may have been from the first roll, assuming it's from one of the rolls at all and not some kind of packing debris.

I've run more prints and haven't seem more debris, so that's a good sign---maybe it's getting cleared out. Although, I'm printing high-key photos with a lot of white, so maybe the spots are still there and I'm just not seeing them.

Thanks.
