G7 & the Kodak NexPress

Hello,
Has anybody had any experience doing a G7 calibration on a Kodak NexPress? If so, can you recommend any resources that we could study to determine if this is a realistic goal. I keep being told that the NexPress fluctuates so much that calibration and G7 would be like trying to hit a moving target (it wasn't that long ago that I was told the same thing about Epson printers!) Any feedback or advice as always is most appreciated.

Ditto - would love some feedback to this question as well. We're running a Kodak NexPress M700 and are going to G7 in the very near future.

I think the key to this question is the consistency of the device, regardless of G7 or any other adjustment methodology. I have no experience with the Nexpress, though I've heard others claim the device was consistent and have implemented G7.

I should be more specific. Assuming that the NexPress can be returned to a known state on a consistent basis, is it possible to use IDEAlink Curve to create curves to achieve the G7 NPDC? I guess, can we take this further than a profile-profile transform, or is using the GRACol profile as a destination as far as we can go with this? Do we need to approach this more like an Epson? Does anybody offer a front-end solution similar to GMG for the NexPress? I haven't found anybody who can fully explain Kodak's color management (whether our operators, or Kodak techs.) My research is just starting.....I need to learn more about the NexPress!

How about, well, GMG? Colorserver can be used to facilitate output, though not directly a front end. You could even use mx3 calibration files to compensate for drift.

Well I would certainly recommend that you know your device before attempting to throw solutions at it.

Hi - I have to echo "meddington" - We are a specialist integrator of all GMG Color Management software for proofing and press control and have had great success in using GMG ColorServer in front of HP Indigo, NexPress and iGens. Using ISO39L or GraCol target data mapped and iterated to suitable printing stock (MX4 Profile) that sits on a MX3 re-cal profile which gets calibrated using a fast specto like the XRite iSis you can achieve very impressive numbers indeed. Obviously these technologies vary in their consistancy but with regular calibration high quality accurate color can be maintained with little effort.

The Kodak Nextpress is designed to be color managed using profiles. Yes, it does drift, but this is true to some extent of all printing and proofing devices.
