HP designjet 500 ppd won't let me do custom sizes

acquired a HP designjet 500 42" recently. got it hooked up to a powerpc g5 mac osx 10.5.8. trying to print out of illustrator cs3 to a custom page size but the ppd won't allow me to do so. it has a lot of preset page sizes but nothing close to what i need (36"w x 24"h). does anyone know of a work-around or something?
