ICC profile created in ProfileMaker - needs to be used in EFI Colorproof

Hi,

I am new to color management. I hope you can help me with my questions :)

1. How can I use an ICC profile in EFI RIP which has been created in ProfileMaker?

2. In ProfileMaker, you have the freedom to set the ink limit. When you create an ICC that has ink limiting capabilities and you use it in EFI, will it "follow" the ink limit of the ICC that has been set in ProfileMaker?

A VERY BIG THANKS to those who will try to answer my questions :) more power!

The source of an ICC profile is irrelevant. If you have a version of Colorproof that allows for the import of custom profiles, then you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes, the ink limit set in a profile is honored by the program using the profile.

Yes, you can....but there are some steps involved. First off, (I'm assuming this is EFI Colorproof XF) hopefully you've already created the base linearization file ("baselin") and printed your profiling testchart using the base linearization calibration.

Once you've created your profile, there's a process of "connecting" the baselin to the ICC profile and the media set you've defined.

If NONE of this makes sense to you, then I would advise contacting your dealer or color managment tech that set the system up for you initially....this is really the person that should be doing this unless you've had full training on this (if you're asking this question, then I assume you never received the proper training).

Absolutely the profile's total ink limit will be honored.....but there's also the setting of the total ink limit in the baselin process above. Typically the baselin total ink limit does the "heavy lifting" of ink limiting but you can also apply some additional ink limiting in the ICC profile if it's needed. Usually the amount of ink limiting needed in the profile is very slight, usually not less than 300%. If you've done the baselin correctly, you might start with 400% ink limit in the profile and simply examine the print/output quality. It REALLY HELPS to have a profile analysis tool such as ColorThink Pro to take a peak at the profile's characteristics to determine if it needs any additional ink limiting below 400%....it's rarely about "over-inking" at that point but more about optimizing the gray balance and such...in other words, simply tweaking the profile a bit for a better result.

Hi all,

i am new to this color management. Anyone can explain me the measures which i want to take to get good reproduction in newspaper.
Please explain me briefly good workflow of prepress ( with CTP).
Importance of or proofing / softproofing
good DPI,LPI and light intensity value

I am very much thankful to those who give me guidelines

A brief answer is impossible to what you ask. At least half of what you're asking has little or nothing to do with color management. Why don't you start by telling us what you already know about newspaper production?

Hi Terry,

im a little more ahead but having the same problem.. maybe you can help me?

i didnt wanna open another thread.

im trying to build an external profile thru monaco or profilemaker for colorproof as well.

Lin is done.

now i use the HT driver.. so i printed the 7channel charts thru EFI.. messured it.
built profile.. all good.

i can connect it, too.. but then cant print. profile "missing".

when i looked it the details i see that monaco and Pm build the profile using LAB as connection color space. the own EFI profile is built with XYZ .. i figure this could be my problem?

what do you think?.. is there a way i can change the CCS in my profile?

thnx so much:rolleyes:

I've done a base linearization of the printer in EFI with the color management box "unchecked".

After a thorough base linearization, it is now time to create a custom ICC profile on another software, the Profilemaker.

At this point, in the Quality tab in EFI, I connected the base linearization file "*.epl" so that it will be applied before creating the custom ICC

My question is, must I CHECK or UNCHECK the Color Management checkbox prior to creating the custom ICC profile in ProfileMaker? The Color Management checkbox in EFI enables an offset profile(?). We utilize "Webcoated_v2.icc" and "relative colorimetric" settings for this under the CMYK tab.

Right now, I check the color management checkbox before creating the ICC. I am worried that if I UNCHECK the color management checkbox, the ICC profile will not include the offset profile options (webcoated.icc & relative colorimetric) during ICC creation, so that when I connect it with the base linearization file and CHECKED the color management option, the color might appear different because the corrected color in the custom ICC will be topped with the offset profile that is now enabled with the color management checkbox checked.

however if I checked the color management right from the start, the offset profile together with the base linearization will take effect just before I create the custom ICC.

Am I doing the right thing?

PS: Ive tried unchecking the Color management option before creating the custom ICC profile. the problem is, when I connected the custom ICC profile in the base linearization file, the printout is the same (I retained the color management box as unchecked). I thought that the color management checkbox is concerned ONLY with offset profile but it seems that it also enables/disables the custom ICC.

I will be grateful for any feedback. thanks :)
