Image Enhancement

We are looking at getting invloved in photobook production on a small scale
and our Igen that we bought last year had Image enhancement on the RIP
When we tested it we found that it didnt work that well - infact it made most of the images look worse...it smashed the images on many pictures. When we asked the Xerox specialists
they said that it would work but only on certain images and then it was on an image by image case - obviously no good for a production line where we get hundreds of images....

I was wondering if anybody had similar experiences and wether there was any better software around for this sort of thing...

Many thanks

Not on a iGen, but our DC8000AP Fiery RIP, we use Image Smoothing, it only shows any improvement on low res jpegs. It tends to smooth out the pixelation.

Are you using a web based system for the photobooks, if so do you mind sharing?

which RIP are you using? On Fiery this function works nice, on Creo on the other hand we ran into several probems.

Elpical Claro is definitely a product that you should look at. Give me a call and we can discuss it. I'd be happy to run several images and or jobs for you through it.

Where are your photo's coming from? The software is intended to improve photos from people that used lower end digital cameras or people that don't know what they are doing with a high end camera. If you are getting professional photos the software will probably do little to nothing to help.
