I finally get the opportunity to go to Chicago this year to the show. Any suggestions on Hotels w/shuttles, good food, good area to stay?

The official Print '09 hotels are listed here: http://www.print09.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Aj7+Werr0b8=&tabid=63
The best hotel locations are the ones just north of the Chicago River. That puts you on/near N. Michigan Ave. - the "Miracle Mile" - the heart of Chicago. If those prices are too steep, and you're flying in to O'Hare, you could do what many do and that is to book a hotel near O'Hare airport and take the train into the city each day ($3.00 and fast about 30 min) I've often stayed at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare‎ 8535 West Higgins Road Chicago, IL 60631 (773) 693-4444 which is a 5 minute walk to the Cumberland train station. You can then take the blue line train to Lake, get out and walk to the nearest official hotel and board one of the Print 09 shuttles.
If you're up to it, it's a great early morning one hour walk from the downtown hotels to McCormick either along Michigan Ave. where you can see the "Bean" Gordon Pritchard's Photography: Cloud Gate sculpture in Chicago a.k.a. the Chicago "Bean" or along the lakeshore. The line-ups for shuttle buses and taxis at the end of each day at the show are looonnnng - so you might plan on leaving mid-afternoon or walking back to your hotel.
If you arrive at O'hare and stay at a downtown hotel you should still take the blue line train downtown (get off at Lake) It's way faster than a cab and wayyyyy cheaper.
Food? It's Chicago - it's all good!

best, gordon p

what kind of budget? Billy goat tap is an experience. so is ed debevic's www.eddebevics.com all kinds of neat places on the loop. lots of nice hotels. I have stayed at the plamer house and the holiday inn. both okay on a budget for down town.

I stayed at Chicago Inn on Michigan and it was very nice, easy on the wallet too.
There is a fantastic deli on 11th, the Eleventh City Diner. Oh boy did I make a pig of myself there!
There is a shuttle so don't worry about getting around to the show.
