"Proposed Ban on Carbon Black Raises Red Flags for New York State Printers"

Can you imagine printing packages and labels without black ink? Neither can I. But the New York State Legislature can, and some of its members want to force the industry in that direction by banning the pigment carbon black from packaging and label production. It's just one part of a sweeping proposal to hold NYS producers responsible for what happens to labels and packages at the end-of-life stage. Some say it could put them out of business. Read about it here:

The legislators would act quickly if the big guys that print all the election ballots let all the board of elections offices know that they will be printing all election ballots without the use of inks that contain carbon black. This would put everyone in a panic, quickly!

I bet it is a scheme to print blank ballots so that the counters can count for the candidates as they see fit. After all it's not voters but the counters that count.

I just saw another article on Print and Graphics Communication Association talking about the same thing here and they are urging printers to "to contact their NYS legislative representatives immediately". I imagine if this passes, it could extend nationwide as we have seen after California passes big environmental laws. Seems like they should come up with an alternative before they just make printers stop using black ink!
